Photos of Teddy Bears brown recluse spider bite 1 Attachment(s) I just wanted to post a couple of pictures of Teddy Bear's brown recluse spider bite so if anyone else notices something like this on their pup, they might have an idea of what it is. Sorry, it is pretty gross. The first pic is within 3 hours of the bite. We noticed he had a spot of blood the size of a quarter on his leg and it looked like a raised bump on his leg with a black center that was oozing blood out of it. We rushed him to the vet as soon as we saw it and she squeezed a bunch of chunky white gunk out of it. They referred to it as "cottage cheese". That is how quickly the wound was forming from the spider bite. After the vet squeezed the gunk out this is how it looked. If you touched the bump, it was hard beneath his skin. The vet said that the hard lump beneath the skin was a sign that it was a brown recluse bite. I just wanted to post pics of his spider bite because I noticed some other pups have been bitten by spiders lately. This is how quickly the recluse bite started doing it's damage to Teddy Bear. I don't know if the bite would be the same for every pup, so if it doesn't look like this but you suspect it is a brown recluse spider bite, you might consider having a vet look at it. By day #4 a scab was already forming and it was healing. I believe that it healed so quickly because we got him to the vet so quickly and the venom was squeezed out quickly. Also I believe that the prayers from my Yorkie Talk Family was what really brought him through this. The vet had told us that it was going to get a lot worse before it got better but it didn't. It started healing immediately. Everyone was astonished that it was healing so quickly. The reason we knew that he had just gotten the bite was that we had Teddy Bear at the vet a couple of hours before because of bloody diarrhea. The vet had to get a stool sample from him and the bite was located on the rear of his leg where we would have seen it when she was getting his stool sample. I'm having a terrible time resizing these and posting so pic #2 will follow #maybe#. |
1 Attachment(s) This is how the bite looked on day 2. It started forming a scab right away and completely healed within 10 days. I can't thank God enough for sparing my baby boy the horrible skin-decaying bite. |
That bite and wound must have hurt like heck! Poor Teddy Bear!!! I'm so glad that this bite started healing quickly and nothing worse happened. It looks just dreadful! I'm so sorry that poor baby had to go through this - so scary to think that can happen to any of our dogs or even us! |
I know. It is scary to think that if Daisy would have been the one bitten, we probably wouldn't have seen it through her dark hair. Someone in a pet store told me that people around here are reporting seeing a lot of brown recluse spiders. My husband told me that he has seen them crawling around the outside of the house. I have never known any person or animal to have been bitten so I never worried much about them. Until now. |
OMGosh that's one heck of a bite! So glad it healed so quickly... |
Poor Teddy Bear! I am so glad you had him at the vet and prevented things from being much worse. How scary that these spiders are proliferating. Thank you for sharing the pictures to help others know what to look for. |
How terrible. I'm so glad you found it quickly. |
Poor Teddy Bear!! I'm so glad he came through this okay. Thank you for posting these pictures. I never thought to take pictures of Julia's wound. But it really looks a lot like that. This is Day 3 for her. I will take and post pictures of hers tmrw. She ran fever the first night so, the vet said to give her baby aspirin. She also takes 2 anti-biotics. One is oral and the other is a spray. All insects and snakes are really bad this summer. But, we didn't have much of a winter last year either. |
Sooooo glad Teddys healing up so quickly.. how scary!! |
I seriosly hate brown recluses! Black widows get all the press but brown recluses are just as dangerous. Their venom can effect and kill tissue. And affect the neurological system. Had a friend get bit by one and she was basically disabled for almost 3 months. Cant imagine these little ones dealing with it :( Caution...they hide and wilk bite if startled. They hide in things that aren't moved a lot like boxes or even a pile of laundry or shoes sitting in the closet for a bit before being worn again. Use caution whenever movung something that hasnt been touched for more than a couple of days. |
Im glad you took him to the vet, glad he will be ok |
Wow that is some bite. I am so glad he is on the mend. |
It was your quick response that saved your baby. Where do you live? I am in CA, I don't think we have brown recluse. We have a lot of black widows. So glad your baby is ok. |
