| ![]() I spent about 45 min. with him this morning. The Dr. gave him a little more Albumin yesterday before she left because it was really low (1.1) after the procedure. She said there is a 24hr window to use the human albumin again. This morning he is 1.8, but unsure if he can maintain it. He is eating really well. His poo is not quite so bad. His energy level is better. I took him out for a short walk in the grass and spent some time with him, then back in to rest. They are keeping him through the day. Don't know yet about tonight. He has IVs with steriods and antibiotics. I picked him up a couple times and although he is still coughing, he didn't groan when I picked him up like before. She said even if he gets the most benign diagnosis, that sometimes they don't respond to treatment. I am trying to stay positive, although I really don't know how this is going to turn out. I don't know if we will have the results of the biopsy before the end of the week or if it will be next week. I'm going to visit him again this afternoon. If he survives this and recovers, I am going to add up everything I've spent on him through his lifetime. He surely has to be one of the most expensive yorkies (or dogs in general). Initial costs, regular vet visits, 2 LP/ACL surgeries, now this... Never did I imagine I would have these kind of expenses for a pet. I could pay cash for a small car with what I've spent on him. I don't regret a penny of it and I will keep going to try to save him (he is our child), but I did everything right before I got him. He came from a breeder that is listed on YTCA. She doesn't breed to sell dogs, she breeds to get her next show dog. She kept his sister to show. She is still shows and I saw her a couple years ago at a dog show. I think she is a responsible breeder. It just goes to show that you can do everything right and still end up with medical issues. I told both my sons not to get a dog until they can definitely afford it. They told me they wouldn't, but that they would be getting mutts as out of two well-bred breeds we've owned, both have had issues. Our golden died of cancer and he was the only one in his line to have that cancer. Sorry, I'm not grumbling about the money, I just know that most people I know (not like those of us on this forum) would think we're insane for spending what we have. If I ever have another dog after him, I will either get pet insurance or start a savings account for him when he is young to cover expenses later in life. I like the second option better because it won't exclude certain expenses or illnesses like some insurances do and I am disciplined enough to do it. |

| ![]() You are not insane. I have spent so much money on some of my pups that I am sure some people think is crazy, but they are my responsibility and I love them. I do hope he starts to respond to the treatment. Your story is so sad...I know you must be so sick seeing him like this. Saying lots of prayers for you and for him.

| ![]() He is home! Stoked up on steroids and antibiotics, he is feeling better and has an appetite. He is on Purina Gastroenteric prescription food. Along with his steroids & antibiotics, they also sent him home with something else that I can't remember the name (and can't get up to look because he is laying beside me) that is taken on an empty stomach and helps soothe and heal sores in the intestines. They gave him another steroid shot and a vitamin shot before he left the hospital. He starts the oral steroids tomorrow. So, now we stay on this treatment plan until we get the results of the biopsy. I can tell he feels much better, but he is still a very sick boy. Hopefully, his improvement will continue. His gut needs to heal. Thank you everyone for your prayers, it really means so much to me. |

| ![]() I have been silently reading and watching your boys progress, just wanted to chime in and say that he, you, your husband and family and the vets looking after him are in my daily prayers. I do hope and pray for a wonderful ending and that Columbo has many, many joyful moments to share with you all.
