This also looks like the spots that Riley has had before... Riley has only had a couple of spots at a time and they got to about a medium grey.

I take Riley to the same Vet as Kristin = "Maximo". He confirmed that Riley definitely had dry skin.... [I was feeding Acana/Pacifica, at the time and I don't know why but I did notice when feeding Acana his skin was very dry....] and he seemed to think they were environmental… possibly some sort of grass allergy... he recommended I give Riley some sort of Omega/fish oil... I started giving Riley Nordic Naturals Omega-3 Pet [you can get it in liquid form or pill form] as well as occasionally rubbing his belly with the Nordic Naturals Organic Coconut Oil.

People on here know how Thrilled I am with Canine Caviar...and let me just say that since I switched Riley to it, on August 2nd, he is Completely 100% Cleared Up... I flipped him over this morning to check him out and there are absolutely NO Spots... and we have been walking through not only the same Grass, etc. in DC, but tons of new grass in Florida the past week and a half.

Page 3, #36, you will see 2-before and 2-after photos of Riley after I switched him from the Acana/Pacifica to the Canine Caviar Grain Free Wild Ocean. This was day 7, after the switch. His tummy is even "More Clear" this morning than he was in those 2-after photos.

Ohhh poor baby- Hopefully you are able to find out what is going on with Kuma! It is sooo stressful dealing with those type of issues!

OMG it does look like what Riley had!! Wow- I have also delt with a itchy miserable dog with spots, it is not fun!! For us it was the food!

Hopefully you can get your baby better soon!! ((HUGS))

Belly - I got the organic coconut oil that was suggested and let him lick some off my finger and also put some on the spots on his belly....I can already tell a big difference in the spots..they are much smaller and some are gone already.

Shots and Neuter - I cancelled his appointment for this month for the neutering (he would have been just shy of five months) and tenatively rescheduled for January with the option to push it back again. He got his shots on Sunday and I asked ahead of time which ones they were going to give him. They had Lepto on there and I declined it. He got distemper (needs one more) and his rabies shots. Had no reactions at all so I'm pretty sure it was from the Lepto last time. I wish I would have looked more into it but glad I know now and that I can decide what he gets!

Hi there, what was the outcome here? did the rash go away after you applied the coconut oil or , did you take your baby to the vet ?

Gosh, to me this looks very much like pyoderma (staph intermedius infection). I can't believe your vet just didn't do a quick swab of the area and look at it under scope for bacteria...I'd be a little ticked about that. It only takes a minute and can Dx pyoderma so easily. If it's pyoderma, you truly need to get oral antibiotics, like Simplicef...before it gets worse.

Btw, is he itching anywhere and/or chewing/licking his paws? Oftentimes, dogs with allergies will get a bout or 2 of pyoderma during allergy season bc their skin becomes irritated. Have you noticed anything?

Definitely Pyroderma....Mini gets this often, literally a red spot will appear and 24 hours later....uggghhhh a hot mess....so sad really.

Good information is never too old to bring back up!!!

Hi Mela. I am not sure of the outcome here, but I definitely recommend following the information and advice given if your pup is suffering similar spots. Go to Vet first and get a scraping tested. The vet will most likely treat with antibiotics if it is a staph type infection. Sometimes, it can be fungal so you really need a Vet to look it over.

Coconut oil is great in addition to meds but not in place of meds. Many of us use it as a food supplement and rub on skin. It has an antibacterial element to it (or so I've read). I also use it when brushing Mandie's teeth because of that

Hope you check back in and keep us updated.

Hi, yup did realise it was an old thread but the photo was identical to my babys belly, looks exactly the same , i started with cocounut oil, and believe it or not an improvement already!! unbelievable, I thought was some major allergy or even something worse, cant believe dry skin, but going to continue for another 2 days and hopefully its gone by then. he is now as diirty as can be, coconut oil ensures everything clings to it, eish, but anything is fine as long as it works!!

Becareful here, the Pyroderma lesions do dry up and get dry but the internal "staph" infection must be dealt with. I'm glad that this is working to help clear the lesions but I'm afraid that it is covering up the infection. If your pup gets any little bumps etc., You will NEED to get to a vet.

Just when I thought problem solved

, guess this means antibiotics then. I wonder if I could just phone the vet and ask for antibiotics for a staph infection then, he is not going to be able to see the rash as its lighter and more than likely gone in 2 days anyway. We stay an hours drive from the vet but have many opportunities for deliveries of medicine ect. Or do I have to take him so the vet can do tests? this rash is not affecting him in anyway whatsoever, he is totally as energetic, eats just as well, not even itchy, just dirtier than ever with the coconut oil!!

doesnt help bathing him , one day and he is dirty all over again, I give up
