Sores on tummy :( Ok, I am trying to figure out what these spots on Kumas belly are. I have pointed them out to the vet every time we have been in for shots and they all say they are just dry skin and verify that I have him on flea prevention (which I do). They are only on this area of his body around his "business" and I noticed tonight on it too. They get like a scaly scab on them which scratches off easy with a figure nail but they just keep coming back, they almost look like little sores. I've never seen anything like it. I thought maybe he was biting himself when he was cleaning himself after peeing. Any ideas? |
Picture 1 Attachment(s) Here is a picture of the spots :( |
Could it be from the acid in his urine? It might be irritating the skin,,kind of like diaper rash. Maybe you could try wiping him off after he has been potty. I just noticed that you are a homeschooling mom,me too. This will be my last year to homeschool, year 22. |
I'd try coconut oil on it (great stuff for skin and coat) and go to a vet dermatologist. |
Poor baby boy! This looks like a bad case of what Max had last summer. Max had just a couple spots at a time and they were not that dark. He had to have an antibiotic that cleared them up. We saw 2 different doctors and they were not sure exactly what caused the spots. They can turn into staph infection. I would see another vet, or a dermatologist as KJC suggested. Organic coconut oil helped Max's spot too (we like Nutiva brand -- it has to be good stuff to work), but I think your little guy needs an antibiotic first. |
Find another Vet. I would suggest they might want to do a scraping of those scabs. Taht can turn into a staph infection and may already be. This cannot be left as is. |
Thanks I will definately get it checked out then...if its staph is there any other symptoms I should look for? He has had them for six weeks...since we first got him. They don't seem to bother him, like he doesn't itch them or anything but I want to make sure it wasn't serious! |

I will also try wiping him and the coconut oil thing. Wow, we are on our sixth year homeschooling :) |
Coconut Oil? Ok, I looked up the organic coconut oil on a natural pet website and this probably sounds stupid but do I put it on the spots or feed it to him...the one I found said it's a supplement... |
More questions! Hi, I have two more questions. First what is the appropriate age and size to get my yorkie neutered? Also, my baby is three months old and got his second set of shots today (plus the shots he got at the breeder). I'm behind and just now reading all the posts about vaccines and how some are core and some aren't needed. I'm kind of confused about the schedule and what/when... |

I start mine slow, maybe 1/4 teaspoon and work up to a teaspoon for an adult, and can be applied topically, and on the coat if it tends to be dry. Many members here follow Dr Dodd's vaccine protocol; see links at the bottom of this page: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/die...-overview.html Age to neuter: Hot debate topic: I like later than earlier, 12-18 months, definitely after the growth plates have closed determined by xray. |
Mina licks a tiny bit of cocoanut oil off of my fingers. Neutering,do some research and talk with your vet to decide what is best for you. |
I didn't read all the posts but my Miss Mini gets secondary infections like this often, looks just like your pic...if it is- your pup needs antibiotics. Staph infections can really make your pup sick. IF IT IS WHAT IT APPEARS TO ME TO BE...Good Luck hope your pup is feeling better very soon. |

Wash with a non-irritating shampoo and rinse really well at least once a week. Use a hair dryer on low heat to dry (careful not to burn his belly, keep the hairdryer moving rather than concentrating on one spot). Don't let him lie down with a wet belly because moisture will only exacerbate the problem. Apply the coconut oil topically. Make sure it is cold-pressed, organic, with no preservatives. I bought one with preservatives and it did nothing to help. |
