| Dee, I haven't been on in a while because my son had my first grandchild early, and I've been doing a lot of babysitting! Buddy will do great! He will be happier and healthier almost immediately. The first few days after you bring him home you may question what you have done because his meds (lactulose) and the new diet have made him feel so much better...but that really is only a temporary fix. Surgery is the right and permanent solution to Buddy's problem. If they are putting a ring on his shunt to fix it, you must be very carfeul the first couple of weeks to not let him run and jump - then after that, you won't be able to stop him because he will feel so much better than before! You are a great mama and Buddy is so, so lucky he has you!!! |

| Surgery Time!!!! Well guys this is it. My darling little boy is having his surgery tomorrow. im taking him to the hospital at 8 in the morning and then im going to work. The surgeon has promised to ring me once surgery is over. My 15 year old brother has offered to take a week off school to look after Buddy once he comes home as i am unable to take days off. So everyone reading this, please please say a prayer for Buddy tomorrow. I have an anxious pain in my stomach and just want this to be over. Thank you so much for your support since August, and here's hoping that from now on its going to be good news i'm posting!! @lolasmam, congrats on the new addition, and thank you so much for your advice, you've kept me sane these past few months. Will update once I hear about Buddy xxx

| I hope your vet also took a stool sample to check for parasites. When Tallulah came home, she was frighteningly small (barely a pound) and she had frequent fainting spells and fits of hypoglycemia. Her symptoms were similar to your scenario. Our vet told us she probably had a heart defect and wouldn't live very long without surgery and close monitoring. Only after weeks of feeding her sugar water from a dropper, fingerfuls of wet food, and giving her nutrical twice a day (a pretty aggressive, full-time regimen) did our vet ask for a stool sample. She was found to have coccidia, which is a parasite that kills if not treated right away (as many do). I think it's an important thing to rule out before surgery, but if it's already been done and confirmed (I didn't read the whole thread), then you move forward, obviously. We don't see that vet anymore. He was extremely inattentive and his misstep with the stool sample was just too much for us.

| Max and Marley and I are scrunching our eyes and concentrating on wellness thoughts for you and Buddy. It is so hard when the babies are ill. When they are tiny, there is no room for error. Thankfully, both my boys have developed into robust, very strong 'young'men'... but both went through a very fragile period where an illness could have taken them down. Maxie's hind haunches were like chicken wings... thin and brittle. Now, he's built like a six pound Tank and can jump straight up three times his height! (for cornmeal dumplings) I hope your baby does well after his surgery, and that you have him for many, many more years! |

| Surgery Went Well! Hi everyone, thanks for your prayers and kind messages. Buddy's surgery went really well, the surgeon was really happy with it. An ameroid constrictor was used today on his shunt. Buddy woke and ate within an hour of waking. I havent seen him as I am only just finished teaching piano and the hospital is two hours away from me. One of the vets who is with Buddy tonight just rang me to say she was giving him a big cuddle on the couch. She said she gave him chicken as a treat and he gobbled it up. His bladder was really full but he was refusing to go to the toilet at the moment but I hope he goes soon. They will keep him in hospital until at least Wednesday and then I get to bring him home. im so so happy the operation is over. I miss him so much and I guess im a little anxious about bringing him home, i hope everything will be ok. I did not know to ask if they checked his stool today.....i will ask tomorrow when i ring. Thanks guys for all your support Will keep you updated
