Dee, I haven't been on in a while because my son had my first grandchild early, and I've been doing a lot of babysitting! Buddy will do great! He will be happier and healthier almost immediately. The first few days after you bring him home you may question what you have done because his meds (lactulose) and the new diet have made him feel so much better...but that really is only a temporary fix. Surgery is the right and permanent solution to Buddy's problem. If they are putting a ring on his shunt to fix it, you must be very carfeul the first couple of weeks to not let him run and jump - then after that, you won't be able to stop him because he will feel so much better than before! You are a great mama and Buddy is so, so lucky he has you!!!
