| My Heart is breaking- Pancreatitis help needed This is my first post. I have owned and raised yorkies for over 35 years....this morning I woke to finding puddles of vomit on the bed. My Sophie is 2 years old, and continued to vomit for 20 minutes, when I rushed her directly to the Vet. The vet on call, who is not the vet I use....informed me she was dehydrated and did a series of blood work on her. She called later and spoke to me about finding a significant amount of "fat" in her blood..along with elevated liver enzymes. Yesterday and last night, I was at hospital, with two terminal parents, however my husband said she was perfectly normal acting and eating and drinking. The first sign of trouble was this morning. The vet informed me that liver shot was very common in Yorkies ....I have never heard this before. Sophie remains in hospital on I.V ...tomorrow the vet will determine if she needs more extensive liver testing. I am feeling a little uncomfortable with this vets, findings, and would feel so much better if my regular vet was here for consultation...He will return on Wednesday....... When I asked this vet if this could be a "fatal problem" she replied " I wish I could say no". I haven't stopped crying all day....If anyone has anything to offer in way of help, guidance, etc, I would much appreciate . I find it very baffling, how she was given such a wonderful bill of health her last vet visit, a few months ago. Losing two parents has been and will be a major loss in my life, to loose my best friend too, will be too much to bare. Thanks for listening..... |

| I wish I had advice or help...but all I can say is I'm so sorry you and your baby are going thru such a hard time and you both will be in my thoughts and prayers!!! I can't imagine how I would be if I were in your shoes!!! I'd most definitely get her to your usual VET! At least you'll be more comfortable with his diagnosis!

| Oh my Abbie, you have a lot riding on your shoulders right now. I hope that your little one will be ok; it's good they are monitoring her and giving her IV fluids. Liver issues are VERY common in yorkies; my Lucy has mild liver disease. It does not have to be a death sentence so take a deep breath and let your Vet do what testing needs to be done. Prayers for you and Sophie, and your whole family right now.

| Ringo1 you have no idea how much I needed to hear your words with respect to this not having to be a death sentence. I am going to attempt sleep.....I miss her warm little body against mine in bed. Even though I am relatively new.....already I am impressed with the members here. Then again...you are Yorkie people.......what more can I say Hugs abbie |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I am so sorry to hear about Sophie. Did they test her for pancreatitis? Is it possible someone gave her some fatty foods? I will keep Sophie in my prayers to make a full recovery.

| I am so sorry that you are going through all of this. During one of my darkest times, in one of my complaining sessions to a friend where I was lamenting about what God had thrown onto my shoulders, she laughed. Then she said something that has been the corner stone for the rest of my life. She said, " God doesn't test the weak Christina, where's the fun in that" This one statement has gotten me through more than I could ever imagine. It has given me courage and strength to go on when I thought I could not. All of our thoughts and prayers are with you, you are not alone, hang in there. |

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Did your vet perhaps say "liver shunt?" If you'll search on that phrase, you will find all kinds of information about it. Many dogs have suffered from this condition - and lived quite well with medical treatment or surgery. Pancreatitis can also be managed with very careful attention to diet. I hope your little Sophie is doing better in the morning and you get some good answers tomorrow. |

| I believe in prayer and a candle, I will do both for Sophie and you right now. My babies had Pancritis and it was a nightmare for my hb and I.

| Just wanted to let you know, you and Sophie are on my mind....As a mommy, I know you can't help but be terrified and the stress level you are under doesn't help...but stay positive, as you say, whatever is going on was caught early and I would think that she has an advantage of recovering with treatment and diet...as you stated the vet you saw was new to you and not knowing you, she might not have wanted to give you best case but to warn you of the worse case, not giving any false hope...I think your regular vet will be able to help guide you as to what is happening with sweet little Sophie today....keeping you in prayer....love and hugs your way.... |
