Zachary's Mom Donating Member | Zachary Peed on My Leg About a week after we got Zachary, I suspected he had a Urinary Tract Infection. I couldnt get a urine sample but my vet prescribed a antibiotic anyhow and the symptoms went away. Now, about a month later, he has started peeing a lot again (he is 5 mths old), pretty much wherever he is standing but he will use the pads if we take him to them. Then tonight, he was standing on the stool I put my legs up on and PEED ON MY LEG! I can't figure out how to get a urine sample. He will be getting neutered in a few weeks so I will ask my vet to get a sample then when he is under the anesthetic. I know how miserable catheters are and I don't want to put him through that so will wait. Do kidney stones cause a dog to do this? I was nearly in shock when he just squatted and peed on my leg. Any ideas what else could cause this? Louise |

| Your guy needs to see the vet tomorrow. Waiting even a few days with a possible UTI is not good for him and he could be very uncomfortable. So many things can cause urine issues. i would not be too concerned yet, esp. since no testing was done to help choose the right antibiotic before. This time a urinalysis really does need to be done and a culture. If that is not showing anything, your vet will probably do bloodwork which needs to be done before neuter anyway. Your vet can easily do a cystocentesis. That is a needle right into the bladder through the abdomen. I promise..it sounds much worse than it is. It is very low risk, done allllll the time (actually it is the best way to get a sample if infection is suspected), and the animals really don't seem to care. I have watched many a cysto and it is no big thing for the pups..even my own dogs... Some vets do it ultrasound guided and others don't. Ultrasound does make it safer, but both ways are acceptable.

| Yes, I agree...I would not wait for a urine test. My vet has done many cystos on my pups when we cannot get a urine sample. They don't budge so I really don't think it hurts them at all. The first time she did one, I sat there cringing....I still don't like to watch, but I am not fearful of them any more. Honestly this would be best anyway as the sample will be sterile and your vet can send it out for a culture and sensitivity which probably should be done.

Zachary's Mom Donating Member | Zachary DOES have a UTI. I know how miserable they are. I take an antibiotic daily, low dosage and have for years because I have chronic UTI's. My vet is a country vet, been in practice since 1969. No fancy equipment, if he can't handle something's he refers you. They don't do unnecessary things and try to keep costs down. Zachary is on a different antibiotic for a longer period of time. To do a C & S would be more $$$ so if it comes back again, we will do more extensive testing. I have gone to this clinic for 23 years. They are very well thought of and have people that will go to nobody else. They are very honest and caring I don't know what I would do if they close their practice. Hopefully this treatment will be the one that works. Louise |
