| Summer is sick. :( My sweet foster, Summer, did not eat yesterday afternoon. She was acting a bit funny later in the evening...tucking her tail and was a bit shaky when I would pet her. She did play a bit with Armani, so I figured I would wait until this morning to see how she was. Well, she did not even look at her food this morning...no physical symptoms such as vomiting and/or diarrhea; but I just was not comfortable and took her into the vet. Her lipase was over 4,000 and her belly was tense, so she is on IV fluids for today and probably at least 2 more days. They also gave her Bupranex for pain. Poor baby. Similar to what BabyGirlRosie posted recently, I am posting this to remind people that it is good to know your pups and get them in quickly when they are out of kilter. If I had waited until she had more symptoms Heaven only knows how bad she could have gotten.

| It's funny how it works. I have found that a pup that normally eats really well well 9 times out of 10 be really sick if he/she stops eating all at once. Thanks! I hated leaving her...poor thing probably remembers what she went through in the past.

| So good you got her into the vet right away. I hope it proves to be something that can be easily treated. I will be praying she is better soon.

Right now there is something going on with pups in this area....my vet is off today and her partner told me they are getting a lot in with these symptoms. Funny...a friend of mine just called me and said all of her pups are sick with stomach issues.

| Yep, I would rather spend $46 on an office visit and nothing be wrong than to wait until there are more symptoms and a huge vet bill to follow. Of course, in this case, the bill won't be cheap....but definitely better than waiting. I could have ended up having a really sick pup in the middle of the night and ended up paying EC bills...not to mention the poor thing would suffer.

| Yep, I always go....not like I have money to burn, but I feel that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

| I am so glad that you knew to get her in so quickly!! I agree with you about getting them in quickly bc you know your own pets enough to know when something just isn't right. I have several acquaintances that laugh at how much I will bring my dogs in, but I would far rather err on the side of caution vs having them suffer!! I really hope Summer starts feeling better soon!! I know it had to be hard to leave her there, but hopefully she will be back home with you soon!! |
