| Siezures Epilepsy Very wise choice to get off the barbituates. Our Yorkie, Chuy, started having siezures 8 years ago, he is 11 now. One Vet put him in phenobarbitol and it changed his personality drastically and he was attacking our daughters male dog who we adopted. He was not himself. Then we went to a different vet who recommended we do potassium bromide. That saved his life and made his quality of life just perfect!! He has taken 1/2 to 1 mil everday of his life these past 8 years and to our knowledge his seizures have pretty much gone away. He might have one when we are not around, but when there was stress in his life he would have a siezure and sometimes long ones but I am convinced this treatment saved his life and gave him quality of life. He does have bloodwork done once a year to ensure his level of the bromide stays good, but our little man is still going strong. I highly recommend this for your Yorkie if he/she has epilepsy. One thing that seem to help him also, although the vet will say it doesn't, is when he was having a siezure, we would give him a dose of the potassium bromide to help him focus then the best thing we found to do was lay by him or hold him if he let us to calm him during the seizure. Go into a room away from everything and shut the door and just be with him seemed to help the seizure subside. Hope thisinfo helps. |

| Thank you everyone for your support. I couldn't be more thrilled with Max. It's also nice to see him have a more normal appetite and not be starving all day. He still eats his poop but you can't win everything
