| ![]() Wow! I am so amazed that you just knew something was wrong. You saved his life! How powerful that must make you feel! I know this is scary, but until you get the results you don't know what you are dealing with... So let's pray for the best! I am praying that it is the best case !

| ![]() Baxter is so handsome! I am glad that you went with your instincts and took him to another vet. If I were you, I would call the first vet and let them know what the diagnosis is! Saying lots of prayers for you and Baxter and hoping that this is benign. Please keep us posted.

| ![]() sometimes just getting the right diagnois is the hardest part of the battle, kudos to you for noticing the problem so quickly. The good news is it has not spread to the bone. How long do you have to wait for the results of the biopsy? Thoughts and prayers are headed your way. Baxter is sure a cute little fellow.

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | ![]() I'm so sorry to here the news about Baxter. Hopefully its nothing serious to worry about and the worse thing that will need to happen is a toe amputation (which is not a big deal, honestly). Keep us updated. After looking at your pictures I thought the one of you in the green shirt looked familiar. Didn't you used to be on here a long time ago before you got Baxter? Your SN was Mikey or something similar. I remember a picture of Baxter in an army green bag in your car. Is that you? If so its nice to see you back here, I just wish it were under better circumstances. Good luck with Baxter, I know how much you love him Edit to add: Call that first vet and tell him what an A$$ he is for not being more concerned over the toe and that its a good thing you took Baxter to another vet right away, especially since you caught it before it spread.

| ![]() michael, i am so sorry to hear baxter's diagnosis. how terribly scary. i completely understand that you're a basket case right now and we are here to talk to anytime you need us! my heart just breaks for you. i'm so happy to know that you have caught this very early and that will give you the best outcome possible. losing a toe (or even a leg) wouldn't be so bad if it means saving his life from cancer. baxter is very lucky to have you and he is such a cutie pie! thanks for sharing the pics of him and taking him in saving him from a life of living in a cage. you and baxter will most definitely be in my thoughts and prayers. i will be checking in on him so please keep us posted. depending on the type of biopsy it could take a couple days to a week or so for the results to come back but please let us know what you find out. truly hoping and praying that it comes back benign. we all care about your sweet little one! sending hugs ~ carrie with pixie and zowi

| ![]() I think too it would be wise to inform the first vet of Baxter's condition. Hopefully it will be a wake up call for him and he will take his clients' concerns more seriously in the future and prevent this from happening to others... Anytime anything affects an animal's mobility and/or quality of life, it is a serious concern and requires a vet's undivided attention. Kudos to you for getting a second opinion! Praying for Baxter for the best possible outcome and a speedy, complete recovery....

| ![]() First of all, take a deep breath. Your post says that he has cancer, yet then you said you are waiting for biopsy results. This may not be cancer at all...and that is what I will be praying for. ![]() Good for you....so glad that you were an advocate for your pup and went for a second opinion! ![]()

| ![]() I wouldn't bother speaking to the first vet. I would send a letter explaining that you weren't satisfied with his care and sought another opinion. Enclose a copy of the report showing it was cancer. Tell him how lucky ALL of you are that you pursued it. If he works for a practice, and is not a sole practitioner, I would send the letter to the main partners so they know. I'm sure the practice would like to make sure this doesn't happen again. Hopefully he will be fine. We've all seen dogs getting around just fine on 3 legs, I'm sure he will adjust to losing a toe without too much trouble. He will be happy when it doesn't hurt anymore. Good luck to you both. |

| ![]() When you notify the first vet that you need Baxters records sent to the second vet ASAP, you can go on to explane why you are leaving his practice. Do it in writing and as suggested, send it to the practice so all the partners are aware of the issue. And of course, if they are a member of the BBB, you need to send in a review there also. Your persistance, attentivness, and resolution to get a satisfactory answer from a vet that at the very least, showed some concern about this lesion on Baxter, has saved Baxter's foot, leg, or even possibly his life. Job well done, Sir! |
