| worried about Little Dude (Gizmo) I posted this in the other thread but wanted to make sure everyone got to see it. Gizmo is home with me but he is acting so weird. He had to have 13 little teeth extracted, poor baby. He is microchipped now and neutered. Vet says not to give him anything for pain till the morning but he is shaking. He has had nothing to eat or drink all day and I know he can not eat now because of the teeth but he does not even want any water. I am wondering how I am supposed to give him his antibiotics, I do not want to put him through that tonight so I am skipping a dose until morning. I am hoping that is ok I will sleep on the floor next to his x-pen tonight so that I can watch him but I am really concerned about his blood sugar with the not eating and dehydration with no fluid. Will he be ok?

| He should be ok. Did they give him fluids during the procedure? They usually just need to sleep the first night...they still have the effects of the anesthesia. I hope they gave him pain meds there and some for you to give!

| Oh my goodness. Poor little thing. Wonder why they don't want to give him anything for pain. Isn't shaking a sign of pain? I am not sure. Hopefully someone can give you some advice. I just wanted to tell you I will prayer for the little guy. Hugs and kisses to him.

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | they should have given him the 24 hr. pain injection that is why you can't give him any pain killer until tomorrow, but I remember when my Harry got neutered and one tooth that was loose was removed, the Vet told me to allowed him lick ice cubes and I also offered him a frozen fleece braid I had prepared for the puppies in the freezer, he chewed on it for a bit until he went to sleep. maybe that will help your baby too.. hugs, tomorrow it will be a better day.. |

| I am sure he will be fine. I have never had one get in trouble overnight. An adult pup will not get hypoglycemic that quickly if he is otherwise healthy.

| You could offer him some rice and broth. He might take that.

YT 1000 Club Member | Oh I am so sorry to hear that Gizmo isn't doing so well. Maybe some ice will help as well as a nice warm blanket and some hugs from you . I remember the night Romeo was neutered -- my 2 daughters and I took turns sleeping (2 kept watch, 1 slept) just so that Romeo can be cuddled all night long. Keeping you and Gizmo in my thoughts tonight...

| Did the vet specifically say to withhold food tonight? A soft diet, no more than one alfthe normal portion you give, should be just fine. Ig you feed exclusively kibble, you can soak it to soften. I would do the antibiotics. But depending on what kind, it may be important that thy are given with food.

| I misread your post....he can eat! I thought you said he did not want to eat. I always give canned food if they have extractions.

| I do not feel comfortable trying to give him the antibiotics as they are a liquid and he fights me to take them and I do not want to even touch his mouth as he just had 13 teeth extracted. Will it really hurt him to miss one dose as long as I make sure he has it in the morning? Oh I am so upset

| If the vet said to give it to him tonight, you really should imo. Just hold his head still and gently slide the syringe in the far back corner of his mouth. The quicker you do it, the better. He is going to be fine! I have had so many lose teeth like that ... some have lost more. They come to us that way and it is better to get them out...much healthier for them. Maybe have a drink first!

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I would call the vet for advice. When Pfeiffer was spayed, she got the shot too but she didn't have good enough pain control and it just wasn't a pain level that was acceptable for me. I called the vet, and talked to her about what to do...she gave me advice about using the take-home pain meds right then, rather than next morning. It helped tremendously! Of course, you'd have to talk w/ your vet to see if this is even an option, and if it is, what a safe does would be. I hope your baby feels better soon, poor little guy.
