Hi, My yorkie also has Lymphangiectasia Protein-Losing Enteropathy PLE Inflammatory Irritable Bowel Disease. I was wondering if probiotics would help her? Have you tried them on Cookie?

No, I have not. The nutritionist never mentioned it and she is doing so well. How is your baby? When was he/she diagnosed?

Cookie is on prednisone, metranidozole and pepcid. The meds are more for her gastritis and IBD than anything else.. ... While the prednizone can help a bit with the lymphangectasia it was primarily given for the IBD. She is going to be taken off of the metronidazole and pepcid in a couple of weeks and will see the specialist next month. He said he will probably eventually wean her off of the prednisone if she is doing well. She is on a home cooked diet now ... the latest research in this illness is pointing towards diet as being the number one key to treatment. The one thing I would advise anyone with a pup with this illness is to do a consult with a vet nutrionist. It is important that the correct amount of foods and supplements be given.

I want to thank all of you who have stayed in touch with me for your kind words and support...and most of all your prayers. I believe that those prayers have played a huge part in Cookie's good health. And, they have comforted me. I so love my pups and her diagnosis was quite stressful for me.

I received a wonderful PM from someone who never comes to YT...she actually signed up just to send me a message about her pup who was diagnosed three years ago and is doing very well! Hopefully stories like this will be encouraging for other people who come here looking for information on lymphangectasia...this disease does show up in yorkies! Hi Pam! Cookie is on sweet potatoes and tilapia. Supplements are added to that of course.

The vet nutritionist I consulted with now works for RC so she is not formulating for clients now; but the facility I went to does offer nutrition consults; but I think you could find someone in your region. Here is the website to find one:

Just read this thread - all 17 pages trying to learn. My 5 year young yorkie has been diagnosed with PLE due to IBD.
She spent 3 days in ICU at Purdue University small animal clinic. We are home, and giving medicine, and she is on a special diet that she does not like. If I hand feed her I can get her to eat a little.
Her belly is still enlarged, but we are seeing a little bit of an improvement. I will be asking about a pet nutritionists.
When this started, I went to bed at night not knowing if she would be alive when I woke up. So much better than that, but her not eating is not helping her get better.
Her protein level did increase last week, but has a way to go to get in the normal range.

I am sorry you are dealing with this, but hope this thread will give you more hope.

One of the biggest challenges is getting them to eat. Have they put her on Mirtazapine? If not, I urge you to ask your vet for it. It can be a miracle in getting pups to eat....does not always work, but when it does it is amazing!

Welcome to YT! Please keep us posted on your yorkie...what is her name? Oh, and maybe you should start a new thread in the Sick and Injured Forum so it is easier to follow her!

Updating this thread about my precious Cookie. My sweet girl went to Rainbow Bridge on March 6, 2017

In the end, it was lymphoma that got her...not the lymphangectasia. It was more than she could fight off.

I miss my girl so very much.

Oh Ladyjane I am so sorry. I wish we could find cures for cancer and other deadly diseases.
