| New Owner, Dog vomiting! Sorry if this is a duplicate thread, but I couldn't find one with my same concerns. My puppy is a Yorkie 75%/Pom 25% mix - no I didn't pay for him, he was given to me. He had not had any shots when I got him at 9 weeks. Since then he has had his first 2 sets and the vet said he was in great health. Since early Thursday am, he is vomiting every time he eats, we have not changed anything - same treats, same food, etc. I called the vet on Friday and they recommended I put him on an ID diet for a few days and feed him small amounts 4 times a day. So, that's what we do, but he continues to vomit. He is obviously keeping some food down as he is still going potty and poo normally. I called the vet yesterday and then went in, the Dr. gave us Reglan and is testing his poo (again). This has seemed to help some, but he vomited twice yesterday after 2 of his 4 meals and already after this mornings meal. I feel terrible for him as I can tell he is so hungry! He is acting total normal, still very active and playing so I have no idea what is wrong. I will be calling the vet in the morning and will probably have to get an x-ray of his digestive system, but I don't understand what could cause this all of a sudden. Brutus is now 3 1/2 months old. Thanks for any input. |

| I'm not sure why the vet has suggested putting off an exam, but I'd find a vet to take this very serious (today) because it is not normal. Could be a partial obstruction, pancreatitis, puppy diseases come to mind. With a small pup, dehydration can set in quickly which can be life threatening. This pup needs xrays and blood work and possibly fluids immediately.

| Thanks for the advice, I am going to take him to the ER. I will keep you posted on what happens. I did mention to the vet that Brutus has a thing for mulch and I have caught him eating it, thinking he has a piece stuck in his stomach. I am not sure why we didn't do the x-rays yesterday either, but I guess I didn't ask the right questions and since I am a first time fur mom not sure what to do. |

| You shouldn't have to know which questions to ask in a case like this. The vet should have been more proactive. The ER is the best place for your pup today.

| Update: I took him to the vet hospital yesterday and they did not find any obtrusions in his stomach or intestines. They recommended that I fast him for 8 hours and then if he continued to vomit, to go back to the vet today. They did say that the walls of his stomach looked weird - could be because he had an empty stomach and they saw some small white things floating around - like bone???? Maybe rawhide, which I took away from him on Friday. I feel like I starved my baby for 8 hours, gave him food and like clock work, he vomited after an hour. I fed him this am a little before 6 and he did keep it all down. Called the vet, and got him in at 10:00. They are going to feed him with barium (?) and then x ray him every 15 min to see how the food is moving through his system. They will call me when I can pick him up, but said most likey he will be there most of the day. I just feel terrible, I bet he is scared to death..... I just want him to be healthy again. They keep saying he may of eaten something that didn't agree with him. I'm no vet, but my common sense would think it would be out of his sytem by now, it's been 4 days. |

| Ok, I guess the Dr. called and left a message on the home phone (I told them to call my cell). They said that he devoured his food and puked a tiny bit – which looked like yard waste and the barium, but other than that he kept everything down. He is going to give him a shot of anti-vomit medicine which should last 24 hours and then we continue this special ID food for a few days. The x-rays looked fine and everything was moving like it should. I forgot to ask about the worms, but I will when I pick him up. The good news is that the vet tech who answered the phone said they have been carrying him around in a basket all day and he is loving life and getting attention all day – that makes me feel really good. I still don’t understand how he has yard waste in his system, we have really been watching him the last few days making sure he didn’t get anything out of the yard. Hopefully this helps, but I don’t understand how it would…… Does this sound right. I can't wait to get him home! |

| I hope they figure out what is making your poor baby sick. I remember a warning about cocoa mulch being used in gardens being very bad as it has cocoa shells = chocolate in it which is toxic. snopes.com: Cocoa Mulch Danger to Dogs I hope Brutus is feeling better soon.

| I picked up Brutus from the vet on Monday, we fed him a teaspoon (what the vet recommended) of ID food every hour for 4 hours. On Tuesday we fed him 4 small meals and he vomited once. Same thing on Wed. The problem is that he is starving (not literally), but he devoured his food and would cry. If the reason he started vomiting was because he ate something that didn't digest, how long will it take to come out? I am asking because yesterday he got sick 4 times, and I feel like we are back to square one. All of his tests were fine at the vet, but I feel something is still not right. He is going to the bathroom like clockwork, so I know he is keeping some food down, and he is just as playful as ever. Another question - if he just has something in his stomach that hasn't came back up yet, what does being on the ID food do? I am calling my vet. |

| Awww. I really hope your Vet can get to the bottom this or, if he is stumped, he should not hesitate to refer you out to a specialist. Poor baby. It seems like there should be some anti nausea medication he could be on while they try to get to the bottom of things. You have been very diligent in trying to help him get well. If your vet can't do it; I would start thinking second opinion. Hopefully, someone else will come on who knows more than I. Keep us posted.

| The only medication he was on until yesterday was the Reglan, which they gave him last Sat. He is now on de-wormer meds (even though he has tested negative - twice) as a precautionary measure, and on anti-nausea pills for the next 5 days. We won't know the results of his blood work until Tues or Wed. The vet did say if he got any worse this weekend that we would be referred to a specialist. He has vomited a few times, but very small amounts and not near as often. The good thing is that on Mon he weighed 3.5 and now he weighs 3.11, so he is getting the nutrition he needs. Hopefully he ate something else (again) that we have to work through and it's not anything more serious. He is in great spirits today and is not acting like he is starving, so I guess feeding him small amounts multiple times a day is working. |

| I am glad to hear he is feeling better and putting on weight. He is a very lucky boy to have such a loving owner to look out for him. I hope the vets can figure out what is causing him to throw up. Sending prayers for a diagnosis and proper treatment. Best wishes
