| Parker was attacked This morning I took my 4lb little man outside so he could expel some energy before I left for work and he was attacked by my neighbors two mastiffs. For some reason they were not chained or fenced, my neighbor had just let them roam around and as soon as they saw parker they attacked. Before I could react the girl had my baby in her mouth. I screamed at her and went after her...she dropped Parker and started coming after me. At that time the male Mastiff went after Parker and I was able to grab onto his collar and pop it as hard as I could. My neighbor caught the girl before she got to me. Needless to say, I took Parker to the emercengy clinic here and luckily he only had some abrasions on his hind leg, no internal damage. They gave him rabies shots because I am not quite sure if they neighbor's dogs are up to date on their shots or not, and gave me some antibiotics. The bill of course is about 214$. My question Is my neighbor responsible to pay for this??? I know there are leash laws around here and Parker has an electric fence so we were on our property but those dogs were not chained, and my neighbor knows his dogs are aggressive so they have no business roaming free about the neighborhood. I had no clue he let his dogs out of his yard. My baby was attacked on my property and now is terrified to go outside...I had a hard time getting him to come outside to my car because he is so shaken up I am really bad with confrontation but I feel it's his responsibility to pay the bill for the damage that HIS dogs inflicted on Parker.. is this correct thinking? Should I ask him to cover the bill>> |

| I am quite sure your neighbors are responsible for the bill. Thank God Parker is ok. Most tiny yorkies do not survive attacks from large dogs. I think it is time for you to invest in a fence. This was a warning. I have heard many stories and always try to convince people not to rely on electric fences for just this reason. So sorry this happened to you.

| Thanks ladyjane...unfortunately I cannot put up a fence around the property because in reality it's not mine, I rent from my landlord, and I don't see them agreeing to a fence because of the way the property is..however we will not be going outside without a leash from now on he will be right next to me... I like him to have that freedom to run around but not at the cost of his life! Thank you |

| I would be asking for the neighbor to pay the bill. I would also report it to the police, get copies of the report as well as vet bills, and if he doesn't pay, take him to court. Here if ia dog bites or attacks someone, if they can't prove rabies vaccination, they are taken and quarantined for 3 days (I think-may be longer). I would be reporting it to animal control as well.

| Thank you McheleM, I appreciate your advice I am definitely planning on getting the police involved, this needs to be reported, because if this happens to any one else, I don't want it on my conscience |

| Thank goodness Parker is going to be fine. How very scary. Would the landlord consider fencing just a small area of the yard? I do think the neighbor is responsible. You do need to know if there is a leash law. I live in the country so the leash law don't apply to us. Have you talked to the neighbor about the bill?

| Now that you know Parker is okay medically, report this attack to Animal Control and the Police(non-emergency now), since aggressive loose dogs are considered a threat to public safety, send the owner of the dogs a registered letter for full payment of medical bills with a cc notice at the bottom of the letter to the Police Department and Animal Control - sent registered mail, return receipt requested, and by regular mail twice using tracking services for each regular mail letter and buy a good fence. Then, invest in some good dog repellant such as Mace, a taser or a bull horn or whatever you think you will need to scare them should they jump your new fence and go after your baby again. I am so glad your baby is going to be alright and I know you must be scared to death. I pray nothing more happens and you and your baby stay safe from these beasts and their irresponsible owner. P. S. If they don't pay, you could call your city/county and see about filing a complaint against them for the dog attack under the vicious dog code and see if the judge at court will order them to pay it.

| I am so glad your baby is okay. You too. I can't believe how many people let their dogs run loose. I can't believe she did not even offer to pay the vet bill. People are something else nowdays. Its just like, I will do what I want, when I want, how I want and to heck with everyone else. You got some really good advice. I would certainly follow through on the police report and everything else that was suggested that might help you. Keep that baby safe and yourself and if you have to just don't take him out anymore. Maybe take him to the park or somewhere you feel safer to walk him. Its a shame not to feel safe in your own neighborhood, but thats just about what it has come too. |

| If you were on your property- I would be handing the bill off to the neighbor. I would also be leashing my dog in the future, even on my property.

| Just because you leash your dog does not mean you and he can't be attacked again! Be careful
