Jackson's not feeling well. :(

Aw! Im so sorry for you both! They are our kids ya know it? We are also guilty of giving Rascal things to eat that we probably shouldnt. They makes me think of months ago when he started throwing up for no reason..like 8 times one after the other it seemed like. It was also slimmy..flem. But that was right before bed and the next morning he was fine and hasnt done it since. when i became a member, your video of Jackson was the very first one i watched and was so amazed at his talent! You both have my prayers!! GET WELL BUDDY!!

He was just looking for more food but I am not sure if I should/could give him more. He had 1/4 cup. I mean, the bag recommends 7/8 – 1-1/2 for 11-20lb dog. I am sure the vet was thinking I was probably feeding the recommended amounts from the bag when he said to not feed as much as normal. Most tell me to feed him 1 cup a day. So I'm thinking if I give him a few more pieces of kibble he will be okay. He is acting hungry and actually eating the kibble which I am so happy about.

He has not pooped yet today. I don't know if that's a good thing necessarily? But I am happy to not have seen diarrhea since yesterday around 8pm.

The pancreas heals very slowly and I would not be feeding too often or too much. I'm glad he seems to be feeling better.

Brit, I am so sorry Jackson wasn't feeling well! I kind of skipped a few pages of posts to get to the end to see if he was alright! So glad to hear you got a diagnosis and he is home and doing well. Will send prayers that he continues to heal fully and be back to being Jackson! Hugs from me and my crew

He prob had a little over 1/4 cup today of kibble (periodically, not all at once) and a few tiny scoops of canned just to give him his pills. He is done w/ food for the day. Do you think that's too much for a 16.4lb dog?

Brit, I'm so glad Jackson's feeling better! You've gotten some great advice and you're doing terrific with Jackson. Just take things slow and easy, don't let him con you into letting him do too much too soon.

I have a 13 pounder who eats 1/4 cup kibble twice/day. I do think it varies a bit from one dog to another, though.

Yeah that's fine, it's best if he goes slow and he's not getting as much exercise as he usually gets. Don't be tempted to entice him to eat, he'll eat when he's hungry and pain free.

Oh yeah, on his regular schedule he would eat 1/2 cup per day (1/4 AM, 1/4 PM) with a bit of canned. But I mean since he's still recovering, and supposed to eat smaller amounts, I did not know if only 1/4 was enough.

Yesterday I put 1/4 in his bowl and he nibbled from 10am-3pm ish and finished it all slowly. Plus he got a few bits of canned food later when giving him his pills.

He still has not pooped since I brought him home Monday night and it was diarrhea then (to be expected). One of the meds have a side effect of constipation tho. So I'm not sure if I should be worried about the lack of poop -- since he hasn't been exercising or eating like usual, maybe that's another reason.

We have an appointment for 3:30 tomorrow for a re-check. Pray everything goes well.

Yes sometimes, when they have diarrhea, they so thoroughly clean out the gut, it takes a while before normal pooping occurs, but usually it's within 24 hours of introduction to food. Hope everything goes great at the check up, and I'm praying for you and Jackson.

Wouldn't be concerned about the lack of pooping. He cleaned himself out the other day with all that vomiting and his system is totally of of whack. If he is trying to go and can't, then I'd call the vet immediately. It might take a couple more days...

I'm happy to read the Jackson is doing much better and is at home with you. Just take things slow with him since he's been through so much in the past week. Think of his as a little kids after not feeling well. They too want to eat, run and play pushing it to the limit if allowed. Then they have a relapse and are back laying around not feeling well. You are in control of his health and need to follow what the doctor ordered for his own good~no matter how much he pouts. He's been through a lot and you are there to ensure he continues to recuperate slowly.

Thank you! Yes, I am having to be giving him tough love lately but I think he knows it's for the better He is sooo much like a little kid, like all of our Yorkies are, it's ridiculous. I had a fun time explaining to him this AM that his pills are gonna make him feel better and he's gotta stop being such a tard and swallow them. Boy he fights it!

We messed up one pill this morning... I feel like I shoved it ALL the way back in his throat and he still manages to spit it up. Well the one pill was completely turned to powder on my fingers, by the time we were done with it, he didn't get ANY of it. So I had to use another pill so I'm gonna have to tell the vet we are lacking one pill. The canned food worked like a charm yesterday but today he didn't seem to care. Got the first two down easier though!
