Jackson's not feeling well. :(
 

So got up Saturday morning, went to breakfast with my step-dad and sister, ran a few errands. Got home around 1PM and saw two throw up piles in the living room - thought it was odd, as Jackson rarely pukes or has any sort of accident while I'm not home. But he seemed okay and was all excited and jumping up and down because I was home.

Took him outside to potty, he was chowing down on grass. He always eats grass but he never eats THAT much so I knew his stomach was hurting. He did poop and it was solid. Came back inside, and he puked three more small times but there was nothing in it except the long pieces of grass he had just eaten. It was just clear liquid-y substance along with grass in all 3 'piles'.

He did it again, same thing, probably around 4pm. I went out to dinner with my mom around 5:30, because he was acting fine (I never leave him when he's sick usually)... came back, I'd say around 7pm. Gave him a piece of chicken (he hadn't eaten anything else all day) and 10 minutes later, he threw it back up along with grass and more just white clear 'foam' looking stuff.

Then around 1am, took him outside, he again puked but I couldn't see what it looked like as it was so dark. 4am, he again threw up just clear white liquid, just looked like spit, in two separate 'piles'. He was not 'hacking' but more, like, regurgitating.

So basically, Friday from around 3pm-10pm, we had a family cookout at my uncles house and I think he ate terrible. Scratch that, I know he ate terrible! I know for a fact that a piece of a chocolate cupcake dropped on the floor but it was not a huge amount and I ran over and before I could -- he got to it. It wasn't much so I didn't fret at the time, he had gotten a small piece of chocolate before by accident and nothing happened. I also know he had few pieces of the sausage from topping of a pizza (my aunt gave him a few pieces and then I saw and told her he had enough, in a nice way) and honestly, who knows if he grabbed anything else with all those kids there. I watched him 99% of the time but I just don't know if he was slipped any other kind of food. Plus the pool was also a salt water pool and his head got dunked all the way under and I am wondering if the salt water is causing such upset stomach as well. Do you think it's just a combination of everything?

Does this sound like a case of pancreatitis? I feel awful because, yes, I've always given Jackson bits of people food w/ no problems and I give him really small amounts (and nothing too fatty - it's usually only ever meat, or a noodle here and there, etc) but I really should tell other people not to feed him. Plus I'm sure the accidental piece of a chocolate cupcake did him in.

He has a vet appt. at 2pm. He has not puked since 5am but I did not get any sleep last night. He also has been drinking lots of water with my encouragement so I feel confident that he's been staying fairly hydrated. He has not eaten anything since Friday evening. Friday night was fine, also, and he slept the entire night with no problems until 10am.

Any advice is appreciated. Good vibes, too.

Sorry to hear Jackson isn't feeling good. Hope it isn't anything serious and he will feel better soon. Hugs to you an Jackson.

I'd plan on running some tests today. Actually, I'd insist.

If there is any doubt about him getting into something that could have obstructed him, they will do xrays. Bloods will need to be done. Could be a yucky virus, but also could be his pancreas. It (and obstructions) can present exactly like this at times). I'd be very concerned with the greasy foods he has gotten.

No food until it is cleared with the vet.

I'm sorry that Jackson isn't feeling well. Sending good thoughts that he will be feeling better soon. Hoping for a good update after your vet visit today.

I hope Jackson gets to feeling better. It could just be a combination of everything he ate.

Don't feel bad. Ringo got into chicken bones one time and was so sick.

They did end up doing x rays on him and bloodwork - but it wasn't terribly expensive.

He was put on a special, bland food for a while and they gave him a medication; can't remember now what it was.

Hopefully, Jackson would need nothing more than this. Good Vibes!

Thanks, Crystal. Yes, I was fully planning on getting bloodwork for sure. I will see what they tell me. This is a very good vet in this area and has great reviews. The facility is super nice, too, so I am confident they will guide me in the right direction.

I, too, am very concerned about the foods he got. I feel so guilty because I really need to keep on my family about not giving him people food. My aunt has a Pit Bull, whom she had over there with us that day, and I think she is used to giving him such big pieces and doesn't realize how much smaller Jackson is. She is such a dog lover and I have no doubt she would have snuck him some stuff. From now on, I'm going to have to be the big pain in the butt and even-more-so overly protective dog mommy for Jackson's sake.

He's sleeping comfortably right now out on the couch and has been for a few hours. I am just glad the vomiting stopped. Poor guy is probably so sore, too, from throwing up nothing basically. I know how I feel the day after I throw up.

Even one extremely tiny piece of food can set a Yorkie off, really any dog... That's why a lot of us don't give anything remotely greasy. If the family won't listen, then he'll need to be confined. My family doesn't pay attention to what they do/drop, so I just hold E or confine her.

I'm sorry Brit, I know what it's like to have a sick pup and not knowing what's wrong I think is the worst part of it. I really hope everything goes well at the vet tomorrow.

I am so sorry that Jackson is sick. Good to know he has an appt this afternoon. I hope it is just combination of too many people food snacks and the salt water in the pool. I hate it when these little guys are sick. You are a good mom to Jackson and don't beat yourself up, just make sure your family knows in the future...no goodies unless they run it by you first. Sending get well soon prayers and wishes for Jackson.

Unfortunately, he would never stand to be confined at a family event. Crate thing never worked out for us. He would bark for nearly 4 hours straight, no lie (if someone was home). But from now on, I'm either going to leash him up to me maybe or just keep a diligent 24/7 eye on him. Or leave him at home! lol. Sometimes having a family full of dog lovers can suck :rolleyes:

*I* am guilty of giving him bits of my food but I think that's the difference... if I'm eating pizza, I give him a tiny piece of the crust, probably about the size of my fingernail. If I'm eating noodles, I give him one plain noodle, etc. Two Christmases ago, I saw my aunt give him a big piece of ham and was like, woah, no more! Ham and pork are some things I NEVER give him.

Oh no, poor Jackson! Sending positive thoughts and prayers that this can be resolved easily and quickly and that he will be back to himself very soon.

When I had family here and when I have taken Max to picnics and BBQs, I had to hold him because people, especially kids, were desperately trying to feed him things.
