Help My baby cant stand or walk

She is doing 1000 times better. yesterday she didnt walk on it much but she was able to. Today she is her old self walking all over, butt wiggling. tail going 100 mph as it waggs you would not know anything was ever wrong with her

I'm glad your pup is doing well today, but luxating patella isn't a condition that goes away. It only gets worse without treatment. You should follow up with your vet to determine a course of action.

How old is your girl? Is she the pup in your avatar? If so, contact your breeder about this too, if you have not already.

I have no idea what happened here; but I have pups with LP and have had many others in the past. None of them has become incapable of standing up due to LP.

Either the OP just got very upset to see the pup having a problem with her leg OR there was something else going on. At least that is what I believe....I suppose there is a first time for everything.

As for LP getting worse, actually it does not have to be so. I have had many pups stay at a certain grade for long periods of time and never need any type of treatment. One must keep the pup's weight within normal guidelines and prevent him/her from jumping on and off of furnitured. Those things will help to preserve the knee and prevent the LP from getting worse.

Thank you for clarifying that. I was thinking in terms of a dog whose LP is bad enough to have an episode like this or to hinder mobility is at risk for injury.

your very lucky you never had to see your dog not be able to stand it is very scary and upsetting.

Yes i was upset to see her not becasue her leg hurt but beacuse when you went to stand her up she plopped rightback down and to get around she was dragging her back half so yes that did upset me.

Yesterday she wasnt herself could stand and walk but if she was laying on the floor and wanted something she would drag her bottom half and scoot across the floor but then get up and walk in the next blink of the eye like a little hypocondriact..lol and playing it up

Others siad she is very smart why bother standing on it if it hurts.

Today she is fine like nothing was ever wrong.

If my dog was dragging it's rear half to get around I'd certainly be at a specialist getting some tests done to find out how to help my baby. Honestly I don't even know how you can type "lol" in the same paragraph as your description of what is happening to your dog.

Again....if it was that bad, it does not sound like luxating patella to me. That is all I am trying to say!

I hear what you are saying. I have an epileptic dog. 1 day he has a seizure and the next day he's totally back to his old self. But, I can't ignore the fact that he had a seizure. It must be treated.

Aren't you afraid there's something wrong even if she appears fine today?

Your pup had something wrong that made you come here. We responded. What many of us are trying to tell you is that the symptoms you described sounded very severe...certainly not what I would expect to see with luxating patellas.

Do you have a regular vet? If so, perhaps you should call him/her and explain the symptoms as they occurred and ask for his/her advice??

I think you really need to call your regular vet to discuss this episode. Ladyjane is a foster home and has MANY dogs in her care over the years with all types of medical issues including Neurological and Orthopedic issues. She is not bashing you but telling you this does not sound correct what you have been told by the ER vet. I have to agree as well. Of my three I have 2 with some degree of LP and I have never seen something like what you experienced. It literally would mean that you have a dog with Grade 4 LP and both legs became dislocated at the same time with no apparent cause. Doodlebug is the most sever and once he took an odd tumble off the back step and carried his leg. He still was able to walk on the other three but would pick up the leg that was out of place. Yes, eventually it did return to normal but it was not an overnight miracle. He was also given a prescription anti inflammatory and pain med. Was this done for you? It just does not seem right IMO.

I agree, this sounds like more going on than just LP. We're concerned and want to help, that's all. I'm sorry you've felt bashed here - that isn't the intent.
