| Infection 1.5 months post-neuter?? JoJo had been waking up all night long to lick his "private parts", and after a while it dawned on me that it was getting obsessive so I looked down there and was shocked to see his neuter incision from November 25th was very red, swollen, and looked very infected. There's also what looks like a small cut, or slit, on top of the swelling. I thought it had healed just fine and up until now it looked fine. I called the emergency clinic number and I was told to contact one closer to my home after 8am to schedule an appointment. Well, so much for the "emergency" aspect of that place...if I had to make an appointment I'd have waited to contact my regular vet. I'm very concerned and wondering why this happened so long after his neuter. Has anyone else experienced this?

| I wonder if its a slowly brewing infection that you just didn't notice until now because now its become really bothersome? I'd be curious to hear what your vet says. Did they do a post-op checkup for him?

| No, no post-op check. I was never told to come in for one...and when I noticed it was healing nicely I didn't even think about it anymore. I took him to a local spay/neuter clinic because I couldn't afford my vet's cost (over $300). I called them but they're closed on Mondays and I don't even know if they would even cover the cost of whatever treatment he needs now with the infection.

| Thank you JasmineNoelle. The earliest I could get him in is 2:30 this afternoon. The hardest part keeping him from licking it until then.

| Is the entire incision reddened, or just a small area? Sometimes a sutures will work its way out and be swollen and red looking. That is a tiny area, though.

| Ladyjane - it's about 3/4 of the incision area that looks infected, but there is a small cut/tear in one area. Yorkiemom1 - Thank you...I don't have much money but I'll always try to do whatever I can when it comes to his health. I will definitely post back after his appointment.

They should not charge a lot of money....nothing for the office visit imo. Maybe a small amount for the medicine that is probably needed. Please do let us know how he is after he is seen. YOu also should pick up an E-collar to keep him from licking...you can probably get one from the clinic....but, they do have them in Petsmart and Petco.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Hopefully the vet will give you medicine to put on and won't charge to much.

| Thank you so much everyone. We're back from the Vet and luckily it's not bad. Apparently what happened is that his internal stitches didn't dissolve like they should have and he started to have a slight reaction. The Vet said that if it does occur, then it usually does around 1.5 - 2 months post-op, and this is right around that time for him. The entire morning before his appointment I had been holding him to keep him from licking and also gently washing the area with cool water every hour or so to keep it clean and help the swelling go down. It did start looking better and she said I did a good job. She said no medication is needed, but if I feel necessary I can apply Neosporin. I was told it should heal on it's own and within 1-2 weeks at the most. He's wearing an E-collar for now and sound asleep thankfully so I can also catch up on sleep I didn't get last night! Again, thank you so much everyone!!
