From Dr Dodds' protocol:

Distemper + Parvovirus, MLV (e.g. Intervet
Progard Puppy DPV)

DPV means Distemper ParvoVirus The Progard puppy DPV is all in one vaccine

Rabies, killed 3-year product (give 3-4 weeks apart from distemper/parvovirus booster)


If she wanted them separated she would state it like she did above for the yearly boosters

For dogs who have had problems, the vaccines are separated. If a pup has a problem with a vaccine, it occurs within minutes to 1 hour (allergic reaction) of getting the vaccine, not a day and a planeride later.

Titers would be an option.

I totally agree with those articles. There is risk involved with vaccines, but the basic immunity needs to be established in all dogs first.

Also these are core vaccines. Cv (Corona Virus) is not a core vaccine and is not needed for pups over 6 weeks old.

First off with the vaccines I would go with that he hasn't had any. Even if a breeder does their own shots there are stickers that go with those shots that you would put on the paper to "prove" that they were given. I am amazed a vet would say ok with that paperwork to ship him.
Loosing hair is pretty normal in a pup that has been through so much. The body protects important organs first and hair is not that important and if in bad cases the hair will stop growing and will fall out. Don't worry - it will grow back just fine. I see you already checked for mange so I would think it is just a case of bad nutrition. Does your vet have fortiflora to add into his food? It's not cheap, but will help by adding probiotics (good bacteria), vitamens and more. They usualy really like it too.
Depending on how bad of a case of cocci do you think his blood sugar dropped and caused a seizure? This can also happen. Or was this gone by the time this happened?
I would really want to look more into that coughing. Just doesnt sound right to me. Kennel cough causes runny nose too? You can bring him in the bathroom with you when you take a shower to breath in the steam and that might help or the those things you use with kids when they are congested (sorry cant think of the name). I hope some of this might help!

The vet wasn't for sure why he had that episode, but it was the scariest thing I have ever seen. He thought that it might have been a seizure because of how I described it. He only had the one and it was the third day having him. He might have had another blood sugar drop then, but I was giving nutrical and feeding him every hr or so at that time. 3ml of AD because he wouldn't eat. Thanks for the info about taking him into the bathroom... steam. I have done this with my kids when they were younger and it helps. He goes in again for the congested cough thing tomorrow and he is going to get an xray and more testing. Dr. ruled out kennel cough. I have two Adult Shih Tzu's and they have not been affected by him at all. They are healthy as can be. Tammy

Gidget's cough is finally doing some better (knock on wood) on Tussagon. That is an opiate, however (hydrocodone), so I am not sure how appropriate that would be for a little one your size. I take it Wiley is still coughing, poor little guy!

Yes, he is still coughing and congested. He hasn't thrown up since on med for regurgitation. (Metoclopramide) The cough even effects his voice which really worries me. I have never heard him bark, but when I first got him, his wine for me was loud... now it is faint. I Pray the doctor fines out what is going on with him tomorrow. I hate sitting all the time wondering and I hate him being sick. I am glad he has gained weight and eats like a piggy now. Thats a plus!!! Very playful too

Thanks. I will continue to keep little Wiley (and his mom) in my prayers, especially for his vet appt tomorrow. Hopefully, you will get something to help this cough. I know what you mean, that aggressive coughing scares you in such a little thing! Her x-rays were normal, too. They are leaning towards either allergies or an infection in her trachea now.

Good luck to you tomorrow. We're going to be believing this appt is going to get to the bottom of things for Wiley.

Wiley's vet thought he might have sinus/allergies too, but th children's Benadryl didn't seem to help. How is Gidgets voice? I was wondering if something was troubling Wiley's trachea as well.

As her cough got worse, she too could not bark without coughing. In fact, she couldn't really do that litte whine/wimper she does, it was very faint. Vet said it was affecting her voice because her throat was really sore, like a person gets.

We started wetting down her dry food so it did not aggravate her sore throat. We also started giving her water at room temp. We didn't give her milkbones or anything like that that could aggravate/scratch her sore throat. He also said to keep her quiet and not let her vocalize much or run around much which would make her pant. Those measures, plus Clavamox w the addition of Tussagon, finally started working on that terrible cough. The antibiotic w Delsym did absolutely nothing, in fact she got worse.

This sounds so much like what Wiley is going through. The cough but with congestion and he is unable to vocalize and if he does it is so faint. I switched his water to purified water which is room temp. because we live in the country and well water isn't the best and it is hard with a bit of iron taste because we live on the iron range. I think I will wet down his Acana as this stuff is HARD. I have been crushing it for him in smaller pieces. He is a good eater and chews each little piece, but it just seems like alot of work chewing and chew with the Acana being so touch. He also gets a little meal of Cesars wet puppy in the day. Eat that like he is getting candy or something. LOL I LOVE MY LITTLE WILEY!!!!

It does sound like you purchased you pup from a puppy mill. They sell online as well as ship to pet shops around the country. They have all kinds of ways to give you records that are a total lie. It does not take much to get documentation to ship a pup. All it needs to say is that the pup was checked and is up to date on shots. They also give inaccurate AKC registration documents. They are disgusting, heartless people who treat these creatures horribly and care nothing about the people they are harming either. This is why finally many states are starting to crack down on these people but it is too little too late.
I hope once things settle down for you that you do everything you can to shut this monster down for good.

Best wishes for Wiley's vet visit. I am glad to hear he is eating better. Buster too came with many health issues. I supplemented with Colostrum to help strengthen his immune system.

Wiley's xray turned out JUST FINE!!! Made me happy to know that his trachea tube is perfect, lungs and heart are clear and fine, no pneumonia... The Doctor thinks it is allergies to something now. When I got him, his hair was shedding. He was sent with Puppy Chow and she said he was eating Eukanuba and Little Champions wet food. She said she bathed him in Adams shampoo.
I slowly switched him to Royal Canin for Yorkies with Eukanuba, but that didn't seem to help his cough or hair loss so I slowly switched him to ACANA but still no change. I bathe him in Yorkie Splash that I get online. I was using this oatmeal shampoo for puppies until I got the Yorkie Splash. Maybe he is allergic to that, but he had all the symptoms when I got him so it just doesn't make sence. I wash his blankets in ALL or Borax and hot water. I do not give him treats at this point. He gets Nylabones to chew on that are not edible and he has his toys. He drinks Purified room temp. water. He does not get table craps, but I have given him boiled chicken & egg yolk from boiled egg when he finally started to eat on his own to get him to eat more. A few days ago I gave him bits of apple without the peel. (it was cute to listen to him crunch on those) I can not think of anything else besides his meds he was on for his two infections that he no longer has. He was taking Albon & Amoxicillon for that. He does get drops in his ears for yeast problem called Triotic/Otibiotic and Metoclopramide for regurgitation but only if he is really coughing and choking because then he throws up stomach crap from GI. He was given Hydroxzine 50mg (give0.2ml twice daily) liquid form for allergies yesterday. Yesterday was 1 MONTH ago that I got him. I have had this little guy for 1 whole month and he weighed in at 2# at the vet yesterday too. They were just excited about his weight as I was. They all think it is sad that he is having such trouble and losing his hair, but they are happy that he has a good mommy that is taking good care of him.
