I am so sorry about you poor little baby. It sound like he has a caring mom now. I think that the 5-1 vaccinations were too much for a little guy. You will get great advice here on YT. Yorkies being so small that they require a special approach to their health care that some vets who only deal with larger animals may not be aware of. I have learned so much about taking care of Buster from this site. Remember this as a tough lesson learned. I got my Buster from a pet shop and he came with a lot of health issues as well. You know better now and have YT to help with giving your little guy the healthy and happy life he deserves. I ended up getting health insurance because of the poor start he got as a product of a commercial breeder Buster has health issues due to poor breeding practices so it seemed the smart thing for me to do. Hey Tammy,

I'm glad to hear the puppy is getting better. He's gaining weight, eating and playing so things are moving in a good direction. I might be tempted to hold off on the vaccines for a little longer if possible...esp if the breeder did give a 5 in 1 vaccine just before you got him. With his immune system compromised...(that's what I'm thinking between the cough, sniffles, loss of hair etc)...it might be better to just make sure he is not exposed to any other dogs until it is safe to vaccinate him. But this is just my opinion. You would do best to continue your reading/research here from others with more experience and maybe try a second vet's opinion. Someone who is open to more holistic approaches might be good.

They are a lot of work...and when they are sick like this...a lot of reading and research...but they pay it all back 10 fold in love! Looking forward to more updates and pictures.

I'm so sorry you are going through this. It seems as though Wylie couldn't have asked for a better mom to help nurse him back to health. If you need anything, we're here for you. We're also obsessed with puppy pics so keep those coming!

He is extremely lucky to have landed in such a caring and loving home. I'm sure a lot of these sick puppies don't make it because people hesitate to get them to the vet's. Or don't have the money to take them. It really breaks my heart to think how some of these puppies are treated.

So glad to hear he has improved so much, maybe he has turned the corner and with a good diet, his hair will start showing improvement too.

I just posted 9 new photos of Wiley taken this morning before his grooming. He was so playful and fun loving this morning. He is still coughing & runny nose congested, but he weighs in at 1# 13.3 oz this morning. UNBELIEVABLE!!! I am slowly switching him to Acana grain free and this is his second day into changing over to new brand. I wanted Orijen, but much easier to get Acana at New London in Virginia, MN

Are you actually " seeing" hair fall out or are you noticeing that he is thinning out around the face? When I first got Laci I thought she was loosing hair when infact it was just her color breaking and it looked thinner around her face where she was turning silver? I have actually seen that posted several times here and if this is your first yorkie that may be the case and there is no need to worry because turning silver and the hair looking thinner and changing is totally normal

Since we got him, his hair is falling out. It is shedding and he is getting pretty thin. I know in his photos it doesn't look like it, but it is. His vet said that his coat is getting thin too and it might be falling out from all the meds and stress he went through so we are keeping an eye on it. Sometimes I can just pet him and the hair is in my hands or in my lap. Thanks for asking.... I have been worried about his shedding since I got him along with his cough, runny nose congestion.

Has he been on steroids? I know humans get hair loss from steroids/prednisone. As the steroids work out of the system over time, the hair does grow back, but some people have very bad hair thinning from this drug.

Took him to Animal Hospital right away and by the time I got him there... he was sitting up and fine."

That sounds like a seizure to me. My late Maltese, who lived to be 15, had two seizures like that, several years apart. We were never able to figure out why. When they have a seizure, they can "vocalize," and it sounds like a blood-curdling scream. The first time it happened with Sassy, we were asleep in bed and I thought the house alarm was going off, it was that loud. The vocalization is involuntary, just like the muscles jerking and tightening. They don't know they are doing it, and it isn't caused by pain. Then they are "out of it" for awhile, pretty much like you described with your pup.

Just wanted to put your mind at ease, if that was indeed a seizure (and I would bet money that it was), your pup wasn't screaming because of pain.
