I don't want this taken the wrong way, and this certainly is not an attack on Foster mom; however being the skeptic that I am... Wouldn't the rescue be looking into raising funds for this dog? Sorry, I hope the dog gets what she needs but I would hate to see anyone be taken advantage of with an online scam . ( not accusing you of this foster mom....but there are so many heart breaking stories out there that are there to take advantage of animal lovers. ) Hope noone is offended by my statement.

| I think care credit is the way to go....we have used it in the past when our first yorkie was sick and were able to pay off his medical bills without interest for at least a year or so and his bills were around 3 or 4 thousand also. I still don't understand why she would have to be put to sleep. So sad

| I just heard from one surgeon and he said he could do her surgery but he highly recommends we do one ar at a time because it is a very long painful surgery and she will be in a lot of pain afterwards, he things is we did both at once she would be in so much pain it would be unmanageable. Plus it gives us time between surgeries to come up with the rest of the funds for her next one. I do not like having to put her thru it twice but I dont want to lose her on the table either and he said just to do one ear it is a 4 hour surgery at the least. I have one more consult for her at 6pm tonight. The surgeon that I just talked to said it would be 1300.00 to 1400.00 per ear. And if this other lady will donate they told me she would probably pay the rest of what we need, but at least this vet dropped the charge for me by almost 1000.00. We have to see what the other surgeon says tonight. Hopefully he can give me a better deal. |

| I'm glad I'm not the only one who had to google that. There is something called a canine ear canal ablation and a bulla osteotomy (hope I spelled all that right). |

As far as ears and hearing. I don't believe it is possible for anyone to hear with out ear canals and ear drums. Not that a dog needs to hear in order to live... but it seems excessive to say that the dog would need to be put down... that is just awful.

| As far as hearing goes this is what I read on one website: Many owners report that their dog can hear better than prior to surgery. The reality is that the hearing likely is not improved, rather the dog is feeling better and is more willing to respond to auditory stimuli such as ringing of a doorbell etc If you would like to read more visit: Ear canal ablation and bulla osteotomy

| How sad, I feel so bad for her, sounds so painful, I pray you are able to work with the vet and she gets the care she needs.

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | umm, So what is the actual name of the surgical procedure she is going to need? Is it a TECA (total ear canal ablation)? If so, then no the dog isn't going to be able to hear after surgery. She may seem like it but in reality she isn't going to be hearing any better then what she's able to hear now. TECA's are not done together on the same day because of the pain and difficulty. Usually they are done 1-2 days apart with the dog staying in hospital until a day after both ears are complete. They are in a lot of pain, and there is a lot of drainage coming from the surgery for a few days afterward.
