| ![]() Try crushing it up with a pill crusher and putting it in a tsp of pumpkin. Pumpkin will be the only ingredient. It also helps to settle the tummy. Quote:

| ![]() If you are talking about the liquid Tramadol, I seriously don't know what to tell you to do. It is awful tasting! I have never been able to get a pup to take that stuff. The problem is that many of the yorkies are too small for the tablets. With the last pup who had spinal surgery, I ended up calling and changing her to tablets...it was difficult as I had to cut them in 1/8s. If I were you, I would call them and tell them that she is not taking that med well. If they spit it out they are not getting the correct dose. That was the problem I had. Maybe they can give her something else....or maybe they have some magical way to get it down them.

Senior Yorkie Talker | ![]() Thank you Gemy and Lady Jane for your replies and good wishes! Princess Chloe is not taking the liquid med completely. As you mentioned Lady Jane is spitting it out. I had to give her 0.01ml of Tramadol liquid with can id food, baby food mixed together on top of the 0.25ml I had given her 3 hours earlier. I am going to call the SPCA where her primary vet is and see if the pharmacy can give me pills, I have no problem cutting them to the precise amount. I'm also going to call a compound pharmacy to see if they can help me find a way to get it in pill form. I'm going to see if I can get the manufacture of the medicine today, and see what they recommend. Princess Chloe's surgery has been schduled for 7/11/11 and she's so small, I won't let her go through pain until then, there has to be another way? Naomi ![]() ![]() |

Senior Yorkie Talker | ![]() God Bless You Ann!!!!!!!! I'm going to try that idea as soon as she wakes up today, thank you!!!!!! I'm going to give her little pieces of bread to see which one she likes. I hadn't really explored peanut butter with her since she was eating so well and I was using her kibble as treats. I'll try that and/or smooth velveta cheese. It shouldn't hurt her as long as I can get to take her meds. Thank you so much for that suggestion! Many times we can see the forest because of the trees... Princess Chloe send her kisses/licks and Me all my gratitude. ![]() |

| ![]() I will be very surprised if that trick works. I have tried everything in the past....that med is one of the absolute worst to give. I put it in everything imaginable. Recently Buffy's foster mom had the same problem and they did allow her to cut the tabs. As for finding tablets for her...not going to happen. ![]() This med is awful for the tinier yorkies.

I just want to suggest giving her something before you even try the medication, just incase her mouth may be dry. I noticed when medicating Tink she took all her meds much better if I give her a tiny taste of cheese, PB, or chicken baby food right before giving her the meds... and of course another taste without any meds afterwards, as a treat for being good. Also keep in mind, after a while they get better at taking meds, with Tink now, nothing is any big deal, and it also helps for me to stay absolutely calm during the entire process. If I'm in a rush, I take a minute to calm myself down even before approaching her...

| ![]() I know all of you mean well...but have you tasted that stuff? Seriously. ? I honestly don't know why they even prescribe it. I have had problems with it with three pups and another foster home had a problem with one. I have never had such an issue getting meds into pups. I hope someone does come up with a solution....but honestly, the medicine is downright awful and it is notorious for being a problem. I can tell you that I will NEVER use it again....waste of money imo.

| ![]() If you have a compounding pharmacist near you they can often compound it mixed with some flavor that your baby will like. ![]() |

| ![]() I have inquired about this and there is nothing that will make Tramadol palatable! This is not my first rodeo with this medication. I personally will never use it again for any of my pups.

| ![]() Sending prayers for Princess Chloe. Please help her mom find a way to get her to take the Tramadol. May her pain ease and may she be comfortable until they can perform the surgery. May God guide the surgeons hands and keep Princess safe.
