| Yorkie Fracture 9:00 am this morning my 10 week old yorkie was on my bed playing with my husband and when I turned my back for a sec. My yorkie jumped off the bed and when he landed he let out a LOUD YELP and when he got up he wouldn't put any weight on his front right leg. My husband took him to Pet smart Vet 9:15 am and they had to do X-rays ($200 ) on him. The Doc said that he had a fractured leg, and they gave him a shot of pain meds. around 9:30am-9:45am. It is now 9:10pm and he has not ate or drank anything. I have tried feeding him and giving him water but he doesn't want anything. He licked water off my finger but that is about it! Im not sure how to react towards this. This is my 1st Yorkie and he is my little baby!!! Please HELP!!! Is this normal for him not to eat or drink after getting a shot for pain? |

| The pain shot probably made him sleepy. You can give him a bit of nutrical & if you have a syringe you can give him a bit of water that way. Did they wrap his leg ? Even full grown yorkies should not be allowed to jump off furniture. If you are concerned about him I suggest you call an ER vet & ask what to expect from the meds he was given. I hope every thing goes well. |

| What are you going to do about this fracture? Just a little FYI: Petsmart is very expensive! I guess you figured that out today. Your puppy needs to be seen by a board certified surgeon. Please do not bargain with vets and look for cheap care. Fractures should not be repaired by just any vet. We have two pups on the YHR site that had problems due to this where the owners did not take them to a board certified surgeon. One, by the time we got him, was not fixable and he lost his leg. The other one needed bone grafting and a plate and pins...and it was months of crate rest. Fractures are serious .. I don't know what they gave him today but I don't think he should be out of it at this hour. Perhaps he is in pain. Poor little guy.

| Please keep a close eye on him. He is very young and could end up with low blood sugar and/or dehydration. Do you have nutrical that you can give him? Or...you can put some Karo syrup on his gums. Check his gums...they should be pink and moist. If they are pale and/or dry and sticky to touch, you really need to get him to an emergency vet!

| Oh the poor baby! How awful! I'm sure he is in complete shock from his ordeal and is probably in pain. Did they give you any pain meds for him while he is at home?? If he is in pain he probably won't want to eat or drink! Try to push him to at least drink some fluids, as the others have explained it doesn't take much for these little ones to deteriorate quickly! Keep us posted and if in doubt head to the ER vet!!

| I agree with ladyjane. I am no expert but I know one thing, I would never take my puppy to Pet Smart to see a vet. There are so many board certified vets around. If your dog is still in such pain I would get him to another vet to have him checked out before things get worse |

| Poor baby! My lil Pixie broke her paw a few days ago. She has a cast and is doing great so far. It cost me 200 for everything , xrays, cast, anesthesia and staying there all night. Of course, it was our small town vet. Hope he is doing well and waitinfg for an update |

| I am concerned that if the leg is broken it does not seem as if the vet put a cast on this yorkie. It sounds like Lil pixie went through a similar experience and received better treatment from her vet. Please consult with an orthopedic vet. Your puppy is young and growing so you want to make sure the leg heals properly or your yorkie might have to deal with arthritis and pain, or worse. Please also restrict your puppy from activity for now. Buster was jumping on and off furniture and injured his front legs. I now have steps for the couch and I made him steps for the bed by using storage boxes of different heights and putting a bathroom rug over it for traction. You can find many things around the house to use as steps. The hard part will be getting the dog to use them instead of the shortcut off jumping off. Best wishes to you and your dog.

| I am VERY concerned. This is a puppy and if he is not seen and treated by a GOOD and experienced surgeon I don't want to think of the end result. Soooo young for something like this.
