| Jett's coughing My baby is coughing. He has been 'coughing clearing his throat a couple of times a day since I got him.' Nothing serious at all. Well today he is coughing more, its the same cough lasts about 5 seconds, sound like he is clearing his throat, cough does sound productive. He has done this maybe 15 times today. Does not sound like a trachea collapse cough at all. (Watched videos via u tube on this) I told the vet about it when I brought him in, and he checked his lungs, throat and trachea very thoroughly and all sounded and looked good to him. He said to keep an eye on him. He gave him a clean bill of health and said he was extremely healthy. I am thinking possibly kennel cough. He is eating and drinking great, has gained 1/2 an ounce since wed, playing like crazy, and sleeping very well too! He also has no fever, no runny nose, no runny eyes. Can kennel cough give a dog a slight cough?? The cough that he is coughing sounds a little like kennel cough, just not nearly as severe. I have never had experience with this before. Just thought I'd ask the experienced ones on here. Am I safe in just keeping him home, warm and well fed?? If anything changes take him back to the vet?? I know most vets don't medicate for this......What do you all think??

| I'm going through this now. Mia came home on 12/28 and she is still coughing. It's cough cough cough, gag. Like she is coughing up something. Her lungs too are clear and she has gained weight and is playing. Just has the cough. My vet told me if it does not clear up we should take her to the University of Penn. FINALLY, she seems to be coughing a little less. Someone said it can take months to go away. I'm pretty sure it's kennel cough. You do have to monitor him though because it can go into pnemonia. We had to have Mia constantly monitored, having her checked to make sure it did not go into pnemonia. She is tiny though. She is now 5 months and only 2 lbs. | Oh I meant to say too, that Mia was on three round of antibiotics. She was sick though with upper respiratory and bilateral ear infections. The cough is all she has left, and the antibiotics are doing nothing for the cough. Your vet may want to put Jet on Clavamox to prevent it from going into something more. Not sure though. And, plenty of fluids, and I also had a vaporizor on which did help some. Feel free to pm me if you have any questions or just want to chat about it. I know what you are going through. It's so hard to see them not 100 percent. It's been for us well over a month now. Where did you get Jet, if I may ask? E. |

| Elaine. I only got Jett a week ago today, so we have not had him long at all. He too is a tiny guy at 1 pound 8 1/2 ozs at 14 1/2 weeks. Hope your Mia gets better soon!!! The cough is hard to hear, but he really doesn't seem affected in the least by it!!!

| Just keep an eye on him. Yeah, Mia is not affected now either by the cough, but she's so tiny that she shakes when she's coughing. It's a hard cough. I hope he clears up. He is tiny. Please have your vet monitor him to make sure it does not go into more. The little one's turn quickly. He's adorable by the way. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | When I brought Cali home she had kennel cough and it took 3 months to completely clear up. She was on 2 rounds of antibiotics. The thing to watch for are signs of pneumonia. You may want to have the vet check her out again just to be safe. Hopefully she will get over it quickly.

| My yorkie and my shorkie both had kennel cough when I got them. Zach, the yorkie took about a month to completely get rid of it. Zoe my shorkie almost went into pnemonia. |

| So far all we've had is the cough.....I will probably call the vet this morning and just see what he suggests.

| Another visit to the vet, shows a healthy puppy with a cough. At the same place we were. She listed many things it could be.......dust allergies, dry air here in az, perfume allergies, kennel cough, collapsed trachea, (which she was almost certain it is not), the list went on and on. For right now we are in a wait and see mode. If he develops a fever or gets a runny nose or eyes, or won't eat. We are going to try some anti biodics. She said if any of my other dogs get coughs, we are most likely dealing with kennel cough and will have to run its course.......UGH

| Hot Rod had a terrible cough as well when we first got him and I believe it was kennel cough. I felt so bad for him as it went thru his little body when he cough. He did get better over a course of the first few weeks we had him. Best of luck to you and Jett.

| This is just my pup, Buzz, and you will just have to see how your guy does...Buzz coughs, kinda the backwards cough, when the air is dry...When it's humid, as it will get in Houston, I don't hear him cough hardly at all...I see you're in Arizona, and I guess you couldn't be in a drier climate, but why not try a humidifier, where he hangs out, and see if he does any better...Also, I had Buzz checked out by his vet, x-rays, and all, and she saw no sign of collapsed trachea, but said he might have an elongated pallette, which might cause him to cough... |

| I brought out the baby humidifier just last night, and will probably set it up in our bedroom where the dogs sleep tonight. Can't hurt right??? Probably be good for us too!! Yes, it is VERY dry here in AZ right now! Well not sure when it isn't dry.....LOL Thanks for the suggestions!!
