| Can anyone help this baby??? I saw this listed on Craigslist this morning. Does anyone have any advise for this poor baby??? Yorkshire Terrier In Dire Need of Procedure ASAP (New Fairfield) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: 2010-12-26, 9:15AM EST Reply to: comm-qbkeq-2129466582@craigslist.org [Errors when replying to ads?] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I am so sorry to have to come on Craigsilist and plead for assistance but my yorkshire terrier which I have had for 11 years is in desire need of a costly procedure which I do not have the funds to pay for. I am a single mom who loves my dog and she is having difficulty breathing. The vet reffered me to a specialist who we went to see and she is in desire asap need of a endiscopy and thinks something might be lodged in her trachea. She could not sleep last night and it is getting more difficlut for her to breath. I could give you the vet specialist information and if you would wish to donate any funds to see if they might perform the procedure asap as I could make small payments once they received the initial payment. The initial fee is around $2000.00 I am not aware of any special funding that also may be available but please if anyone knows please contact me. Since this is a procedure performed only by a specialist she will need to go there asap as time is of the essence. Please let me know if anyone can help as I would truly be so appreicative. Please email me through Craigslist and I will call you back today asap. Thank you so very much. •Location: New Fairfield •it's NOT ok to contact this poster with services or other commercial interests PostingID: 2129466582 Last edited by Ladym; 12-26-2010 at 08:39 AM. | That is very sad. THe best advice I have for someone who can't afford a needed veterinary procedure is to find a way to pay for it. Either apply for care credit, borrow from family or friends, or put it on a credit card. If none of those options work, I would suggest that the person contact a rescue organization who can take care of the dog and provide for its care. $2,000 for an endoscopy seems very expensive to me, it sounds like something more is involved. Very sad.

| I totally agree with Cathy. This person needs to find a way to either pay for this procedure herself or surrender her dog to a rescue. I cant' imagine anyone that would pay $2000 for her personal vet bills. Maybe you could email her and suggest that she surrender her. Very sad..

| I agree with Cathy and Jodi. It is sad when you hear stories about people who love their dogs and can't afford procedures however this is something people need to think about before they get a dog and fall in love with it. Before I got either one of my dogs, I made sure I had a credit card, had a savings, etc. that I could use to take care of them. When Chloe was going through her medical problems when I first got her, I sold a few electronics that I didn't need because I didn't want to break into the CC or savings unless I really had to.

| I hate that this happens!!! And I get so upset by peoples replies that she should just give up the dog! As a dog owner that has had some SERIOUS vet bills I want to point out that there is no way to "prepare" to have a dog. My little love bug cost me over $11,000 the first year I had him. I don't know many people who have that much saved in a "dog fund" before getting that new addition - and very few people should have to! It is a real shame that vets charge more than physicians!! Working with doctors every day they are always amazed when I tell them how much an xray costs for a dog... yet that same xray would be free on a much larger human being who has insurance! And that is just one example of a charge that is way over the top of what it would be for a human! Not only that, but pet insurance hardly covers anything! IMHO it is outrageous how little there is available for our doggies! And even more outrageous that when your dog is diagnosed with a congenital issue pet insurance can cancel them completely! It is amazing to me that people can ask for help with $$ when their CHILD needs a surgery and people are willing to help without suggesting they give their kid away, but when the same happens with a dog it is suggested. My dog IS my child! Just a thought... I feel for this lady |

| It is very sad when things like this happen but she needs to make some hard decision to help her dog. Her post said that the poor dog was having a more and more difficult time breathing and she wanted donations of money to help pay for an endoscopy. I'm sorry, but truth be told there is no way she is doing to receive $2,000 in donations to have this procedure done. It is much more realistic to apply for Caraecredit, ask for a loan from family or as a last resort rescue. She really needs to make some hard decisions as a pet owner. No one suggested that she should "just give up her dog".

| I guess I'm the only person on YT that thinks it is a sin that dog owners can't get help yet there are a trillion support groups for people with human children who can't afford them. Heck - their are food stamps and WIC for people who can't even afford food for their kids yet elect to have them anyways! This was just my opinion. I, obviously, have cared for my pet on my own and think it is great all of you are able to. I'm just saying I think it is sad there aren't other options other than "surrendering your pet" or going into credit card debt. Hospitals even do surgeries for free on humans that have had tons of bills and can't afford another surgery. Does no one else agree our pets deserve the same treatment? I have personally donated money to women who stand on the street handing out fliers that their kid needs a bone marrow transplant. I just felt like this lady was trying to do the same for her dog. She even offered to give you the contact info of the vet, which is more than most of the people who need money for their kids give! I'm not saying I have the money, or that you should give to her, I was just saying I wish there was SOMEWHERE a person with a doggie they love could turn to when they are out of money and their pup needs help. You never know someone's circumstances. It could happen to any of us! |

| IMOM Financial Aid - Intro This organization can donate if "A life threatening emergency exists when it has been confirmed in writing by a veterinarian that your pet will die or have to be humanely euthanized if care is not provided within ten days from the date of diagnosis." If someone is in contact with this woman and could pass this along! |

| The problem is that in most states, dogs are merely property. You cannot compare children as they are not viewed the same way. Bottom line is that the options are slim for people with sick dogs. That is not the fault of the vets or the insurance companies. Vets spend a lot of money on their education and also there is overhead when running a business. They cannot afford to give free care to people....I can only imagine if the word got out about someone getting free vet care...people would be lined up for days. The truth is you have to think things through when you get a pet. There are always things that can happen. I can tell you that I would sell everything I own to care for one of mine...thankfully it will probably not come to that; but I am just saying that I understand the responsibilities. This is just another tragic story about a person with a sick dog that they cannot afford to care for.
