| A VERY red "poop shute" Dudley has been doing the “butt scoot boogie” on the carpet since he got home from the groomers yesterday. So I checked it out and it is very red and irritated. ..I’ve put Neosporin on it but he keeps scooting around…It appears that he might have been nicked with the trimmer or whatever she used, the hairs down there are cut VERY CLOSE….even on the under side of his tail is that way too, I feel so bad for him and his case of the red butt…. You you think I should put a diaper on him??? I read on here too, to try warm compresses??? Should I do that instead of Neosporin?

| Sammy usually scoots on the rug too after being groomed. Try the baby A&D Ointment for diaper rash. That's what the vet advised me to use when Sammy had bad diarhea. His little coolie was all red and probably sore. Hope your pup feels better soon!! |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | My DIL dog got too close of a shave at the groomers, and it got infected. Once the skin is compromised bacteria can so easily enter the irritated part. Maybe a little Neosporin with A&D over it, and there is Neosporin with a numbing ingredient, but if it doesn't clear up in a couple of days, I'd see a vet. By the way, your groomer should not charge for this, if they ever nick the dog, they should not charge anything. It cost my DIL over $100.00 to treat. Scissors are safer than clippers on the butt area.

| AWWWW poofr baby. It does sound like it is from the clippers. Could also possibly be the anal glands were expressed wrong as well, that will cause to them scoot also. I know that happened once a long time ago with one of mine. They have now have on file, to use only scissors and never to to erxpress anal glands. My Vet will be the only to express glands if need to be. I hope he is feeling better soon.

Donating YT 10K Club Member | Poor baby. Many groomers express glands when it's not necessary and that can cause problems too. Hope he feels better soon

| sore bottom Your baby could have a burn from a razor trim and dragging on the carpet probably makes it worse. You could try some corn starch to help dry it up. I don't think a diaper would be good as it could keep bacteria in and urine in the diaper could make it worse too. Good luck and hoping your baby feels better soon. |

| This is going to sound crazy... If you have a cone for his head, put is on him and then get some Vagasil cream and put it on the irrated areas. It will be soothing and stop itching and promote healing. I use it for mine and use it sparingly. I have never had a problem with it. It is so much better than neosporin. It stops the pain, itching, etc. on contact.

| If this were my dog I would take it back & show the groomer what happened. Some dogs are more sensitive about short trims on the bum then others & they need to know so they can chart it so as not to do it again. |

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | Its possible the groomer did nick him or use a blade that was too warm for that sensitive area. It is also possible that the groomer did nothing wrong at all. She could have been very careful when shaving his sanitary area but Dudley could have just found it itchy so he started rubbing his butt on the floor. The rubbing would have made it itch more so he'd keep doing it and eventually his little butt would get all red and irritated. In a case like this I would put Desitin or Butt Paste on the irritated area and rub it in really well. Don't let him lick at it. The butt paste is excellent. I used to use it at the emergency hospital on sore spots, red bums, and some road rash. it helped immensely. Also be sure to tell the groomer either next time or call tomorrow so they can write it on his card to scissor his sanitary instead. This way it shouldn't bother him so much and hopefully he won't scoot around.

| I was just going to suggest Boudreaux Butt Paste! This stuff is great for all kinds of irritations. As far as a cone goes--just a good idea to keep your baby from licking his hiney. Last edited by LoALAnna; 12-09-2010 at 09:14 PM. |
