First of all, I am sorry about Max. I hope he makes a full recovery. I can't imagine how scared you must be right now.

But there are several posts here that are really bothering me. There is an automatic assumption that the vet did something wrong and therefore needs to A) be sued or B) pick up the costs of the care. Without knowing the ENTIRE story, none of us should be going down that path. Bad things happen. Even if the care was impeccable, things can still go wrong in an instant that no one had any control over. The OP says the vet never told her about doing pre-op blood work, but that doesn't mean it wasn't done. Even if it was, it's only a PREDICTOR of how well the body will tolerate anesthesia, not a guarantee. Not every test under the sun is done as part of that pre-op work up. Clotting disorders, embolisms and even a reaction the anesthesia it's self can't be predicted with the routine tests. I understand wanting to place blame, it's a natural reaction. JMO, but right now the focus should be on Max's recovery. Everything else can be dealt with later.
