The blood panel was taken about 1 hr. after the bloody poop.

So all was within normal limits! The important question now is: How is she??

Yeah, I think she has slowly and steadily gotten a little better today. She has eaten well today, but hasn't drank much water. Thanks for your prayers.

I feed BB and is th Salmon, but I checked the bag and it wasn't the recall dates. Mine is also the end of the bag. I ran up to the specialty store and bought a bag of TOTW and started mixing with the little bit I had left. It's also a fish flavor so I'm hoping Zhoie can tolerate it and will like it.

I hated to change her, she was doing so well on BB, but I couldn't get a past the fact and was worried about the next bag I need to buy, so I'm transitioning now.

Hug & kisses to you and Betty Boop! XXOOXXOO
Thanks, Tena, for your prayers. She was one sick little doggie last night, but is feeling better tonight. She actually wanted to play a little, but I didn't want to overdo it. She is still just lying around with this "poor little me" look. It's not funny, but then again, the "look" in her eyes is so soft and cute. I've been spoiling her all day and she loved it!

I hope Zhoie eats the TOTW and loves it. I'm going to Petco tomorrow and see what kind of foods they have. They have more than PetSmart. Her regular vet told me a while back to take her off of BB because of the high protein and that may have been what was causing her mucousy poops.

I hope it was just the kibble that made Betty Boop so sick. There is no one dog food that is right for every dog. Some toy breed dogs don't do well on high protein kibble.

You may want to check out Castor Pollux if you are going to Petsmart or Petco. It got good reviews from The Whole Dog Journal. The Dog Food Advisor gave it great reviews, too.

Our vet went thru the usual questions- poison, something he ate, obstruction etc. They finally diagnosed him with HGE (hemmoragic gastroenteritis). He is fine now but I watch him closely. I hope Betty Boop is feeling better. If she has the chills, I would be worried she has a fever and is becoming dehydrated. You may need to get her back to the vet.
It is so scary to see bloody poops like that! I looked in the yard today where it happened last night and actually it didn't look like any poop at all...just mucous and blood. It sounds like Bubba really had it bad last year. I'm glad he has been doing fine since then. Do you give him anything special for the HGE? And are they 100% positive it is that? I hope Boop just ate something out in the yard that went through her. She was in the yard today and trying to find something else to get into!!

She has gotten better throughout the day. She's still not 100%, but I think she will be fine. We're going to her regular vet tomorrow. Her chills didn't last long, maybe 30 minutes or so. I took her temp and it was 99. Not sure if that is considered too low or not. I'm taking it again before bed tonight.

Kiwi sometimes had problems with colitis, and once her stomach would settle down, then she'd begin to eat again. Ashley sometimes had problems like this too, but not as often as Kiwi did. You had the blood work done at the vet. I'd check the color of her gums and to see if they are sticky . You can also check for dehydration by seeing if her skin bounces back when you pull on it. As long as she isn't continuing to vomit or to have diarrhea, she should be fine based upon what the er vet said. Have you taken her temperature? How does her body feel? Is it cold or hot? That could be a reason why she is shaking (low body temperature or fever), or she can be scared because she isn't feeling well. I know how worried you are, and I totally understand. I will be praying for Betty Boop. I hope your little doll gets better very quickly.
Thank you for your reply and prayers. She hasn't drank much water since this morning. I think her gums feel a little tacky. I'm taking her to her regular vet tomorrow. Her skin pops right back into place. She hasn't vomited or had diarrhea today. In fact, she has only had one BM in the past 24 hours and it was very small. It wasn't bloody to the eye; however, the stain on the pee pad looked like a little bloody. Not sure. Her temp this a.m. was 99. I'm taking it again at bedtime. Her body always feels hot to the touch. She has been lying around all day with no energy.....just not feeling like her playful and loving self.

That is the food I use and my pups do very well on it! Some of them love the little dried fruits and veggies and pick them out first....very cute.

I stayed up with him trying to decide if I wanted to take him to the vet or "wait it out" to see if he got better. At 8:55 am, he threw up and I decided to call the vet when they opened at 9:00 am. They said to bring him in at 10:00, so at 9:45 we left the house. He threw up 4-5 times in the car and at 9:55 am he started to go to the bathroom in the car - VERY unusual for him. I called my husband on the cell phone and told him that he would need to come help me because I was having a hard time driving with all of this going on. As soon as I put the phone down, I realized that it was all mucusy blood that was coming out and it was everywhere! Thank goodness I was 2 minutes from the vet at that point because I was in a panic. They immediately took him back when they saw him and drew blood. They suspected HGE. They gave him an injection of cerenia for the nausea and antibiotics. His bloodwork came back normal so they sent us home and told me to watch him carefully. ABout 1 hr later he was becoming a little more lethargic and less responsive. I called the vet back and took him back in. They started IV's and redid his blood work. It had changed in the hour that I had him home. They left him on the IV until closing at 6:00 pm and I brought him home, kept him quiet and took him back Thursday morning and they ran the IV's all day Thursday. He was finally back to normal yesterday....we have had these minor cases of bloody stools before that we treated with antibiotics, but this time he started to go down really fast. We still don't know the cause or how to prevent it in the future. I'm certainly not suggesting that this is what your sweet baby has, but if she continues to worsen, please be careful and DO NOT let her dehydrate. We are very grateful that our boy is ok and we are sending big yorkie hugs your way!
I am so glad to hear your little one pulled through this. It is really alarming to see blood. Your story sounds like what happened to Betty Boop. I'm hoping her regular vet doesn't say she has HGE or anything else. I asked the ER vet if we were doing bloodwork too soon because I had her there within 15 minutes of the bloody poop. She said it could be, but didn't suggest taking it again. She sent us home since the BW and x-rays were normal. I hope she isn't dehydrated. She hasn't drank much since this morning. Wondering if I should give her some unflavored Pedialyte with a syringe.

I use the inside of the ears for a temp check. I find that to be a bit more reliable than the feel of their bodies.

I rested my babies stomachs and gave them kaopectate while they were going through this and with all of them it passed within a day to a day and a half. Not recommending this for you, but it worked for mine with what they had.

Hope B.B. is on the mend soon.

I don't keep her food in an airtight container, but am buying one tomorrow. I guess I'm just punchy about the food because of the recall, although hers wasn't in it.

Thanks for your post and well wishes. I'm glad your babies are doing good.

Thank you so much! Me, too!! She's not acting like herself at all today. She has allergies and usually can't control the scratching at times, but today she hasn't had the energy to scratch at all.

I'm going to Petco tomorrow morning. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll look into it. I really would like to start her on a different kibble.

I'm so, so happy she is feeling better. I know my little guy has had less severe episodes of these bloody stools, but not like this past time. He was really sick and it happened so fast. It sounds like Betty Boop is over the hump and on her way to feeling better. I know my vet told me that my baby would have just kept getting worse - he was not turning the corner at all. Give her a belly rub from all of her YorkieTalk friends and get some rest! There is nothing more stressful than having a sick little one.

so sorry to hear about Betty Boop! I hope she is feeling better soon!!
I went through a similar episode with Meiah...they ran every test imaginable and never did figure it out. She has never had it happen again so we don't know what really caused her to go into shock. She is fine now TG!! I hope they can give you some answers so you at least know what to watch for. That is the frustrating part is the not knowing what happened so you can prevent it again.
Sending puppy prayers for little BB!!
