Max is Limping - Seizure Related?

My vet says that growing pains (panosteitis) is much more common in large breed dogs and if the bones are squeezed the dog should react. Max doesn't seem to have a bone issue. It also switches leg lameness.

I discussed growing pains, puppy arthritis, hip displaysia, legg perthes, lyme disease - you name it.

Still nothing abnormal on the xrays. He and Cooper play hard. I've never had 2 dogs before and didn't realize I had to monitor much more closely. I think of Max as a big dog because he's almost 8 pounds, even though he's a puppy. I don't see him as fragile, but have definitely learned my lesson.

I hope this is the last scare. Max, for a 17 week old puppy has had more tests than I could want to imagine.

On another positive note: no seizures since his new dose of phenobarbital

I know! I'm ready for a full healthy week. I don't think he's had one since I've had him. He's such a loving boy though.

I just noticed that you had Max back at the vet again...what an ordeal you have all been through. Glad to hear he is getting well again and no more seizures. You are a wonderful doggie mommy. Give hugs to both Max and Coop from Trixie and I

Yes we've gone to the vet quite a bit. We are going back Friday for Max's last puppy shots.

He's still limping. Yesterday was the first day I've seen a little improvement. I have to work harder on keeping him confined so he heals faster. I give so much credit to anyone whose dog had to be confined for any length of time.

I'm fine. Max seems to be walking a bit better this morning, but as soon as he picks up a little speed, his gait is very off. The only time he picked up speed was this morning after pottying outside and running to me because he was proud. He's sitting in an ex-pen screaming his head off while Cooper is circling it teasing him with toys. They usually go to sleep around 9:30 and sleep for a few hours. It's a full time job keeping them occupied.

The vet called on Sunday to check in on him. She said when she hit his sore spots, it was pretty bad. She said his back right leg was almost like a wooden leg She said I MUST keep him confined better.

He's got so much energy he's now running the circumference of his expen (which is fairly small). Last night I had to sit in it with him to get him to hush.

I hope Max gets better soon! It's so hard when our babies aren't feeling well.

I'm sorry! Gods, I can't imagine that. Fynnlie has an ex-pen (on delivery) and I'm not looking forward to that. Tugger's going to drive him bonkers. At least he's walking better. That's a good sign, right?

That's awful. I really, really hope they can find out what's wrong with him. He's such a sweetie. He doesn't need this.

What happens if you put Cooper in with him? Do they just play constantly? I guess that'd be a bad thing. I just wish there was more I could do for you guys.

i'm just now reading all this. i am so sorry for all you have had to go through with Max. i know you love him so much and are doing everything in the world to make his life start out on the right foot (sorry no pun intended there) he's a beautiful boy and i can tell how much you love him. prayers for your strength and patience as you keep fighting for him. i love you guys and i hope it gets better and he comes through this fine.

You've been really supportive. I'm just thankful the xrays came back normal, but the vet said that he was very sensitive in his lower right hip. If I put Cooper in with them they jump around and tug on toys. I'm finding things that keep Max busy for 20 minutes at a time. I froze peanup butter in a kong toy and he loved it. I have peanut butter dipped bully sticks, and tons of new toys. I froze chicken broth and give him ice pops.

They are sleeping now and will probably sleep till early afternoon.

Thanks. We finally seem to have the seizures under control and I'm hoping his physical health will get back to normal soon.
