| limping...need advice My little 10 year old guy started limping this afternoon when we were walking. At one point he was walking on three legs and holding up the right front paw. I have watched him for the past several hours. He is now walking on all four legs, but seems to be favoring the front right leg. I have looked at his paw and have not seen anything. He is still playing and has tried to do some jumping (which I have prevented). He does not cry or whine when I pick him up or rub that leg. Any idea what could be going on. It is the front right paw/leg. If it were broken would he be able to walk at all? I know yorkies have problems with their knees ad hips; could this be what is going on? How can I tell if it is a problem with his paw or his leg? Thanks! |

| Sometimes they can sprain their paws. I had that happen with one of my senior pups a few years ago. It got better after a couple of days. Since he seems to be improving I would just keep an eye on it. Definitely, as you already know, keeping him from jumping is a good idea. As for knees and hips...they only have them in their hind legs. They have elbows and shoulders in the front. I really would not worry too much as long as it is improving. Good luck and keep us updated, please.

| When my older Yorkie has any kind of problems with his legs or feet, my first inclination is to allow him to rest, to prevent further injury: inspect the feet and pads with a flashlight and magnifier for foreign objects and cuts, and access any pain or swelling. If his pain does not stop after a while and some rest, I take him to the vet's. If the problem improves and continues to improve over the next day or two, then we wait. Anything that doesn't clear up completely by the 4th or 5 day gets seen by the vet. Hope your pup feels better soon....

Paris: Always in my ♥ Donating YT Member | My 10 year old does this too. I had xrays and nothing, not even a hint of arthritis. I think mine just uses it too much. He can't walk as far as he used to. After a few days of no tossing the football he seems ok. Maybe it's just a pulled muscle? |

| Have you checked all the nails on that foot ? He may have cracked one too close to the toe. |

| Thanks to all of you for your kind respones. At this point he seems to be better. As I stated in a previous post I lost my husband on April 24 (Only in his 50's) so right now everything is extremely scary. I don't have any family so every little thing that goes wrong brings terrible thoughts to mind. I am doing my best to stay calm and not panic everytime he sneezes. Thanks again for your advice and comments; Most of all thanks for listening and just "being there" for me..... I am sure Iwill need you again! By the way today was his 10th birthday; Very emotional because the three of us always celebrated; my husbaind always made a big deal out of the day. Today there was only two of us. My heart is breaking. |

| I am so sorry. Hopefully in time things will be easier for you. I cannot imagine the pain you are feeling.

| Sometimes limping is actually caused by pain from the shoulder, not the leg or foot. Since he's an older guy, he could have some arthritis in that joint. My almost 15 year old Lady has been on Cosequin for several years for arthritis. It has really helped her. |
