Sometimes they can sprain their paws. I had that happen with one of my senior pups a few years ago. It got better after a couple of days. Since he seems to be improving I would just keep an eye on it. Definitely, as you already know, keeping him from jumping is a good idea.

As for knees and hips...they only have them in their hind legs. They have elbows and shoulders in the front. I really would not worry too much as long as it is improving.
