| Please help! injured paw I took Maya out for a short walk and suddenly she couldnt stand on her front left paw. She can straighten her leg, but only when I touch her paw - she cries. I can not feel any item stuck to her leg. have you ever experienced something like that? |

| She should be seen by the vet today if possible since she is in pain and cries out when you touch her paw. Please let us know how she is and what the vets says.

| Check her paw for any swelling and hotness. It is possible that she either stepped on something or got stung by an insect. |

the vet can not see her now. I already made an appointment for 5pm. There is no swelling or hotness and it looks like she is in less pain. maybe she pulled a muscle?

| I hope that's all it is. My black lab, now deceased, ended up getting the pad of his paw infected and the vet could never, ever heal it. Of course, he was a big dog and not content to be crated or keep off the paw. Then taped it up so he walked only on three legs and still, he would get the tape off. But his pad was obviously torn and bleeding and I think you said yours was not. My Lucy and Ringo practically act like they are lame if they get a leaf or a burr stuck in there ~ hopefully it was nothing more than that. Let us know!

| OMG!! I was sitting in my room when suddenly she woke up, took her toy and started walking like nothing happened!!! I called and cancelled the appointment for now. I will monitor her leg in the next 24 hours and decide if she needs to go to the vet still. If I can postpone it until Monday, it would be awsome because now they charge emergency rate!! |

Okay with one it is more manageable of course, but my option is to to buy CSB's Canada Savings Bonds. Now before I bought my first dog I did preplan and had saved up through the bonds $2500, each year another $500 goes into the bonds. I do obviously pay up front for the vet visits. And then for special things, I decide do I cash in a bond, or do I put on a charge card? As our dogs age, the likelihood is more expensive vet care. Hopefully by the time we get there our emergency fund will be built up. Presently we have a pretty healthy balance of $10K. I think with one dog, maybe the $60 a month is not a bad investment, as long as claims history doesn't give them the right to "drop" you as a customer. I would want to see the full policy details prior to signing anything.

| You did the right thing for sue, but since I have only one pet, I will check the variable insurance companies out there. I know there is one that even one that covers dental up to $600. Maya doesnt have any pre-existing conditions. I think she either pulled a muscle or twisted her leg somehow because now she walks like nothing happened. Thanks you all for taking the time to respond. really appreciate it!!! |

Trust me when I say these insurer's know every genetic defect in a particular breed, it is their business to know and they are very very good at it. So watch out for the clause pre exisiting. You want an insurance that covers everything! When in doubt ask a very clear question, then ask for a copy of their full policy. Don't sign till you read it and understand it.

Next time it happened it went right on its own. I would have the vet check your little one for it. It is not uncommon in toy breeds.

I can imagine that this type of thing is common in small breeds, they are SO fragile!

As soon as it slips back into place it is like nothing happened. Which is why I suspect this is what could be the problem with Maya as you said she started walking like nothing happened I would definitely have your vet check your little one out to be on the safe side.
