I hope that's all it is. My black lab, now deceased, ended up getting the pad of his paw infected and the vet could never, ever heal it. Of course, he was a big dog and not content to be crated or keep off the paw. Then taped it up so he walked only on three legs and still, he would get the tape off.
But his pad was obviously torn and bleeding and I think you said yours was not.
My Lucy and Ringo practically act like they are lame if they get a leaf or a burr stuck in there ~ hopefully it was nothing more than that.
