| Vaccinations!!!!! I took my precious pup Trixie Leigh to the vet last Friday just for a simple vaccination....It is the one that prevents early tooth decay, detal disease, and gingivitus on toy breeds....Last Night my little girl cameto tellme good night and I was scratching behind her ear and noticed a knot under the skin....I took her collar off and looked at the knot...She takes comfortis monthly so I knew itwasnt a fleaor tick bite...I immediately called the emergency hospital and spoke to the vet on call and he said that it could be a "goiter" caused by the shot...he said it should heal on its own in a couple of weeks....My pup is over 2 years old and I've had her since she was 6 weeks old, so lets just say she has had alot of vaccinations, and never this side effect....Please let me know if any of you have ever experienced this....Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!!!! |

| This vaccine is very new, and while it does work, it tends to cause reactions. So it's generally not recommended. If it's just a bump, that is pretty normal after vaccines. It will go away on its own soon. If it doesn't, the vet should take a look.

| When I heard about this "new" vaccine I had to do some searching about it, I wasn't impressed at what I found.....This vaccine does not stops periodontal disease...It still requires all the normal dental cleanings and also bushings at home. It was approved on a "conditional" basis....Which essentially means they will allow it on the market and they will monitor any adverse reactions that get reported (which most don't). If it injures too many dogs then it will be pulled from the market or it will be fully approved. So in a sense our pets are the guinea pigs for the continuing clinical trials.....This vaccine also has formaldehyde in it, which is a potent cancer causer......Also, this vaccine was tested on 8 month old pups and deemed effective.......How many pups have periodontal disease???.....This is a tricky way to get the clinical trials to swing in the manufacturers favor..... When it come to evaluating the risk to benefit ratio for my pet this would be a huge no-no for me .....I hope your little one is better soon...... For what it's worth this link has complaints about the vaccine..... We Just Had Our Yorkie Vaccinated With The Porphyromonas Vaccine For...

Her personality has just done a 180 though...she is usually spastic and loving and all she does now is sleep and mope around the house....Thanks so much for the advice and the link... |

| I gave this vaccine the and declined it. I'm just not convinced. I'll tell you this - Barney is 10 years old and he has NEVER needed a dental because I brushed his teeth a couple of times a week from 8 weeks old to now. Home care is the most important factor IMO.

| Our vet also recommends against the vaccine. He says there was not enough research done to prove it works or to prove it is safe. |

| My breeder tried that vac on 4 of her Yorkies... they all had reactions... I don't buy that new flu vac either... I let other people be the guinea pigs for the drug companies

| Wow - never heard of this vaccine. I was just at the vet and it was never mentioned. One of my yorkies is 4 years old and does not have any dental issues and honestly I don't brush their teeth - other than the groomer who does it - maybe once a month. I don't know if its because she gets one greenie a day or not. I know that there is a lot of controversy over the greenies but it seems to work for us. I don't think I would ever get a vaccine that really doesn't seem necessary. I hope your little one gets better soon. |

Anytime a vet recommends something to me, I ask how long it's been on the market and to let me think about it. If it's a new product of any kind, I automatically say no. I say no because the research and testing before it goes out isn't sufficient, IMO. Time after time I've heard horror stories about new vaccines, or flea & tick medications or something else. For anything that has been on the market for a while, I go home and research first. Actually though, my vet is pretty cautious and follows a conservative vaccination protocol. She doesn't vaccinate for everything, just for what is necessary for us and no more often than every three years. None of my senior dogs get immunizations at all.

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | Here is the product insert on the vaccine. http://www.pfizerah.com/PAHimages/co...compliance.pdf Notice: This product license is conditional. Efficacy and/or potency of this product have not been fully demonstrated, consultation with a veterinarian is recommended. That means you are being used as part of a clinical trial. At the end of the trial, they will look back at the REPORTED side effects/reactions and make a determination on it's safety. As for it's efficacy, it can't be determined in a wide spread study like this. There are too many variables- what do you feed, how often or do you brush your dogs teeth, breed, general health in order to say that this is effective or not.
