| Skin Irritation Would love some advice. We live in rural New Mexico. Korkie has always had dry, itchy, flakey skin on her back that sometimes gets hot and sore. Taking her to our local vet just produces an antibotic and advice like "hmmmm if it comes back bring her in". Each time is $100. Shes 3 years old now and still has this skin conditions. The Vet believes it's alergies. Can anyone recommend something to help? I've tried emu and many other types of remidies and nothing is helping. I was wondering about alergy medication such as benadryl or zyrtec. If this won't harm her, how much should she get at less than 3 lbs. Anything is worth trying. |

| My dog had something similar... itching, flaking, oozing spots. I started her on coconut oil and Alaskan wild salmon oil mixed in with her food, and coconut oil applied topically to any sores. In 2 months, she has considerably less flaking, doesn't itch, and no sores. She weighs about 10 lbs, I give her 1/2cc coconut oil twice daily, and the dose of salmon oil that's listed on the label. I started her on half doses, then worked up to the dose I mentioned, by the 3rd week. Also I use shampoo and conditioner on her that contains coconut extract, and let the conditioner soak in a bit. Too much coconut oil can cause diarrhea, if that happens, cut the dose back. Don't use products with Tea tree oil in them.... they can be toxic.

| Benadryl Thanks for your quick reply. I went by Petsmart and got Natural Pet for skin & itch irritations. I also purchased baby benadryl. I'm going to give this to her in very small doses for the rest of this week. That is unless I see that it's having a bad effect on her. If this doesn't work I will definately give your suggestion a shot. |

| can you get 'dermacton' by Aromesse where you live? It has some really amazing reviews and results here in the UK. Its a natural cream with no steroids. Ive just sent off for some for my little puppy mill girl who has quite itchy skin on her tummy.

| My Westie has bad skin allergies and takes Zyrtek when needed. He gets a whole tablet per the Vet; but my pharmacist cousin thinks that is a lot. He weighs about 15 lbs though. Benadryl never helped him much. I also use 'Cortisoothe' Shampoo that I purchased from the Vet ~ which is supposed to help the skin condition. I used to put some fish oil on his food and he loved it; but then he had some tummy issues so I quit.
