| Emergency-- pregnant yorkie rescue-- Please help It makes me sad to even have to write this, So my mom called me yesterday afternoon, asking me to come home right away, She said you wont belive what I just did, So our next door neighbor had been going through some pretty hard times, They just told them a couple days ago that they had to leave their property, they lost their homes due to forclosure, I was devastated to hear that hey were thinking of leaving their 3 year old teacup yorkie in a nearby shelter because they had no idea where they were going to go, what makes this story even more sad is the fact that this little 3 year old yorkie has no top teeth and is pregnant! She has no problems eating (she's very chubby) other than the teeth problems she's very healthy, this is her first litter, what scares me is how in the world will she be able to care for these puppies is it even possible? I really dont want to take her to the shelter she is a very sweet dog... what can i do... please advise!!! I'm freaking out~ I know i should have thought about this a little better but I could't let them take her to the pound... Please no mean responses! |

| That is so sad. Surely there is a reputable rescue in the area that can help? Or perhaps it isn't too late to spay her and find her a pet home?

| You could keep her let her have the pups then when the pups are weaned find them all pet homes or im sure a rescue would take her. If she is a smaller yorkie she needs to be under a vets care to make sure she can deliver her pups safely

| I think it might be a little too late for a spay I did think about it, But I think she might be due pretty soon, she looks fat the guy said she was like 4 weeks, these people didn't even know she was in heat... |

| Do you or the people who had her know what she bred with?? Most likely she will need a C section. I know you want what is best for her...did you take her to a vet yet to have her checked out? I hope someone with breeding experience will notice this post.... |

| Wondering about this little girl...What breed was she bred with? How far along? Do you have experience birthing or access to a breeder? Are you planning on keeping her after the pups are born or finding a home for her? How about the pups? Lots to consider one of which is the knowledge and experience but also the cost...she may need a section or many things that can go wrong...bottle feeding tiny pups is very time consuming as is waiting for pups to be born, etc. Many things can go wrong with a birth... Not trying to push you but a spay may be a better choice for this little girl or to turn her over to a rescue that can afford the cost of csections or whatever may arise from a birth....They could also rehome the babies when they are 12 weeks... Just some options. If you were close to me I would help you with her but I have no clue where Compton is. Maybe a rescue knows of a breeder that is trustworthy in your area. |

| If you take her in for an xray, your vet will be able to tell how far along she is, and how many and how big the pups are. This info will help you to make decisions of how to handle her care....

| So what did your mom just do? I'm missing something here. Hope this little Yorkie isn't pg from a larger dog. Horrible. I hope the Vet. can tell if the pups are too large for her to have, otherwise he should do a C section.

| With an xray, if only 2 large pups, you know to plan for a C-section. One breeder I know of drops her mommie dog at the hospital 2 days before the due date and has the vet do the delivery. That way, she's where she needs to be if she has a problem. If they are smaller, she may have a normal delivery. X-rays are done normally anyway, you have to know how many pups should come out, if the count is wrong... she'll need to see the vet for assistance. They can also run blood tests to access her general health, maybe a good preventative measure to take before she whelps. Many breeders feed a high quality puppy kibble to the Moms for addition nutrition. With her being small, 3-5 small meals a day with healthy treats in between. The new mom will start nesting behaviors before she whelps, so keep an eye on her... you'll know her time is near. I'll see if I can find you some more help. Where is Compton?

| I just got off the phone with her past owner, they say she was never around any other dogs the only other dog she has ever been around is another teacup yorkie, this dog belongs to their daughter but he is too young, only 7 months old. Could he have fathered her puppies, I know they used to take really good care of her, she was never on the street or anything they spent a lot of money one her before the economy got the way it did. they say they are 100% that the puppies were fathered by the teacup yorkie which is only 2.5 lbs my guess is that they probably bred them on purpose and never expected to be homeless. my boyfriend took her to the vet they say she's perfectly healthy and only shows 3 very small puppies, he said she might need a little assistance during birth but only if she has trouble cutting the cord and such. I'm soo relieved but please if you or anyone you know have any recomendations please let me know. I dont know how I always get into these things people always call me asking me to help rescue dogs, the only thing is I dont have that much money, I mean vet care is no problem my dads best friend is a vet and sometimes doesnt even charge me. But I need to buy other stuff also if anyone has blankets or anything their babies dont use anymore please let me know... BTW Compton is a city in Los angeles, I no longer live their i live closer to the LAX in Gardena! thanks everyone. |

| Did the vet say how far along she is? You need to read up: Stickies at the top of the Breeders section: Breeder Talk - YorkieTalk.com Forums - Yorkshire Terrier Community and check out some of the threads there to give you an idea of what to expect. And the YT Library: Start at post#4: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...-answered.html And Breeders Section: Start with this: has list of supplies to have on hand (and take notes): http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/bre...irth-help.html Yes... he could have fathered the litter I posted a link to this thread there... so hopefully a breeder can help answer any questions.... if no one comes on after a while, PM me.

| You're in Compton CA right? You're local to me! If you think you're way over your head with this situation, and would like to place her with a reputable rescue, please PM me. She will be in the best care, that I can guarantee.
