| ![]() Thank you! Layla went to our regular small town vet yesterday evening, because I was worried she was getting an ear infection. She would tilt her head if I scratched, so I'd be scratching her ear, and she'd push her head hard against it so it must have had some discomfort. I was right - she had a lot of bacteria in her ears and they were just raw inside! ![]() ![]() She was also absolutely amazed with Layla's mobility! She asked if we've considered taking her to hospitals to visit with sick children, and we said we've thought about it but I think all dogs need to go through some training first, and make sure they won't jump up on people or lick at them (and Layla's a big licker!) but maybe I'll look into it more. The vet said she thinks Layla would really cheer some people up and give them some hope ![]()

| ![]() I'll bet her ears were really itching. I'm glad she got that taken care of. If it isn't one thing, it's another! I'm sure they just loved her at the vet's office. ![]()

| ![]() I have just started reading this and am just to the point of the uTube vidios. It is really something to see what progress she has made that far. She has been so blessed to have the two of you. Not many people would have been able to have the resources to go as far as you have. That is LOVE to the highest!! You are great people. ![]() I also have a special needs yorkie and I know how much time and patience it takes. But I can just look at my little 'Angel" and she makes me melt. She is 5 1/2 years old and shouldn't have made it at all. It just shows that there isn't anything we can't deal with when we really know how to 'LOVE' unconditionally. ![]() ![]() |

I've said it before, but if this didn't happen to my own baby, I don't think I ever would have chosen it. I totally commend anyone who will take in any animal knowing they have special needs. Now, I wouldn't even think twice about it! I know these special ones are just as capable of showing love as any other animal, and the things we do to keep Layla happy and comfortable are totally worth it. Thank you for reading our thread!

| ![]() I think I've said it before, but all of you, Layla, Scott and you are amazing! You went from wondering how you were going to take care of a paralyzed dog to making it seem so easy! How amazing is that? I wonder, Lindsay, what I would have done, I really do, before following Layla's progress. Now, thanks to you and your experiences, I wouldn't think twice. Thank you.

| ![]() Well I hope Layla's ears are feeling much better now. That was certainly nice of them to offer to groom her, there are certain things I know that need to be done, but I have never done with Winston because he to goes to a groomer regularly and she does them. I too have to praise you for the special care you have shown Layla. I love Winston with all my heart and I too would do anything and everything I could to make him happy and content. He does have a lot of love to give as well and I'm certain that love would just grow and grow with each and every day...no matter what.

| ![]() Thank you all! This forum has become such a special place for us! It makes me so happy to know that all of you are out there caring about us ![]() Layla is doing really well, and her ears don't seem to be so itchy anymore. She's still on her ear drops for another week. Last night, we were at my grandma's house and my brother and his basset hound came over. Layla got really antsy that this other dog was in "her" house. Sadie would be on the rug and Layla would be up in her face, barking away! Sadie would sniff her and just want to be friends lol! It was hilarious because Sadie is so much bigger! Finally, Sadie laid down and gave Layla one of her big deep basset hound howls. Layla wasn't sure what to think of that and just sat there quietly. Eventually, Sadie was running back and forth across the room and Layla was scooting back and forth trying to catch her! Lol it was the funniest thing! I wish I had my camera! Before we left, they decided to be okay with each other, and were touching noses ![]()

| ![]() The yahoo group I belong to, Dodgerslist, is full of dachshund owners! Sorry to hear about Emma's disc problems. I think it's important to let people know that it's NOT a death sentence. I hope Emma stays happy and healthy and the disc problems stay at bay.
