Layla went to our regular small town vet yesterday evening, because I was worried she was getting an ear infection. She would tilt her head if I scratched, so I'd be scratching her ear, and she'd push her head hard against it so it must have had some discomfort. I was right - she had a lot of bacteria in her ears and they were just raw inside!
I felt terrible because after her bath on Saturday I used some alcohol ear drops to clean them out (which is when I noticed some brown wax and decided to take her in). That alcohol must have really bothered her!
Anyways, the vet had to pull a lot of hair out of her ears, which I haven't done EVER. She used to go to a groomer and it would be done there, but I've been just trimming her myself since she went down. The vet said one of the techs on her staff is a groomer and they will take in special cases if I would like them to groom her!
She was also absolutely amazed with Layla's mobility! She asked if we've considered taking her to hospitals to visit with sick children, and we said we've thought about it but I think all dogs need to go through some training first, and make sure they won't jump up on people or lick at them (and Layla's a big licker!) but maybe I'll look into it more. The vet said she thinks Layla would really cheer some people up and give them some hope
