It sounds like she had fun at Petsmart. I think bowls with "Princess" in the bottom are ideal, because she is, indeed, a princess! Keep on trying, Layla, I know you can do it, too!:D |
Poor Layla is not feeling very well :( We stayed over at my grandma's house on Saturday night, and she was her normal self. She slept soundly all night and ate her breakfast in the morning. Later in the afternoon she went to look in her empty food bowl, but we were leaving for home soon anyway so we were just going to feed her there. When we got home we gave her some food but she wouldn't eat it. We left it out all night and she didn't eat. I woke up to her crying at 3:30 am. I went down to see if she had pooped or something (usually that's the only reason she cries!) but there was nothing there. I comforted her and tried to go back to sleep. She wouldn't stop crying. I thought maybe she's finally hungry! So I went downstairs to get her food and brought it up but she wanted nothing to do with it. I put it in her mouth and she spit it out! She seemed to want to jump into my lap so I brought her onto the bed to cuddle. She was restless. I started getting really worried that maybe her back was hurting again :( Her stomach was very tight and it kept growling. She cried for the rest of the night but I managed to get a little bit of sleep. Scott took her in for rehab this morning and mentioned it to the vet. She didn't eat her breakfast this morning either. The vet called this morning and said they will not do rehab on her today. She checked her over and she seems to have gas but everything else seems normal from a quick examination. If I wanted, they would do blood work and x-rays but I said let's wait and see if she's better tonight. If not, I can take her back tomorrow. They are going to try feeding her some different food and send some home with her when we pick her up later too. I am worried about another problem with her back. Now that her back legs aren't working we won't have the major warning signs. It is just very weird for her to be crying at night like that. |
I hope Layla is feeling better by the time you pick her up and that she just had a little tummy upset. :( I had no idea she could have more back problems. I've followed her story, learned so much and found it all so inspiring. I feel like I know Layla, and it would break my heart to hear she had more problems with her back. Keeping Layla in my prayers. |

Layla is in my thoughts and prayers. I hope this is just a temporary little GI thing going on with her. |
Yes, she can continue to have problems. What she has is a lifelong disease so all of her discs are aging rapidly and many of them had calcifications. I believe that the ones that had started to calcify already were below the one that ruptured, so they would be in an area that she can't feel. Of course it's always a risk that she could have another rupture higher up, that she WOULD be able to feel. But we're trying to be as careful as we can with her so she isn't at such a high risk, and at the same time we want her to still be able to play and enjoy herself! It's a balancing act! Thank you for your prayers. We really appreciate all the good thoughts you guys send our way! |
Will you keep us posted on how she is??? I pray and hope she feels better- Hopefully it is just an upset stomach!!!! |
I will update again tonight or tomorrow morning :) Thanks for your prayers! |
Layla got some special gastro food today and she ate two tablespoons mixed with water. The vet wants us to give her another tablespoon when we get home and again before bed. We won't be home for awhile now though since I have to stay at work for the night :( but Scott will give her some when he picks her up. I hope she's on the mend! |
Oh, Lindsey, I'm sorry she's having some problems. I know it must be very hard for you not to be able to be there with her, too. I really hope she doesn't have more problems with her back. She's been through so very much, but maybe she just went too long without eating and she'll be ok again soon. You know how they can be if they don't eat just when they need to!:) I'm sending special prayers for Layla and hugs for you, too. I know how you worry! |
Just checking in on Miss Layla this morning. |
Layla Bean is back to her old self this morning :) We actually didn't use the other food last night. I worked late and Scott needed a can opener to open it, so he gave her some kibble and she ate that up. When we got home I gave her the rest of her kibble and she ate it. She slept through the night and ate all of her kibble this morning! The food she got was Medi-Cal which she was on as a puppy but it's really not great food. She was on it to begin with because the vet gave it to us... it's sold exclusively by vets, but it doesn't have the best ingredients. Corn and chicken are close to the top, two of Layla's allergies. I know it will make her itchy and it will be really uncomfortable when she can't scratch herself all night, so we are going to stick with her regular kibble. |
That's wonderful news!! :) I'm so happy for you and Layla, and Scott. Sending Layla lots of kissens from me and my gang! Bonny |
