Checking in on our little fighter girl!!! Sending good thoughts and prayers for all of you!!!! So glad to see Layla is doing better and better every day just like I knew she would |
I hope Layla is having a wonderful week and is exploring all of the places she's been missing for awhile.:) |
Layla is having a good week! This morning she turned around and showed interest again in her back end, by sniffing her butt lol! I don't know if she may have had some feeling or if, you know, she might have done something back there that she needed to sniff :D We have hired a bunch of people in our office from Arizona and Mexico and they all just love Layla but I'm having issues with them FEEDING her. She is starting to beg for food whenever I eat, which is something she has NEVER done. On top of being a little upset about that, early last week, one guy fed her TWO WHOLE JALAPENO PEPPERS! I caught her at the last one but just as anything she's not supposed to have, as soon as I grabbed hold of her she swallowed the whole thing. My poor baby was wheezing for a few minutes and I was seeing red about it... I gave her what was left of my yogurt from lunch to coat her tummy a little. But soon she was back to normal. She has had no digestive problems or anything... until Tuesday when she pooped in her carrier on our way home from work. Not only did she poop, but she pooped a WHOLE JALAPENO! I was horrified. That took a week to pass through her body??? Last night she would not eat much of her supper, and at 2 am Scott woke up to some weird sounds... it was her tummy gurgling :( He took her to pee or poop but she wouldn't do either. She was just really hungry. He grabbed a chicken broth ice cube (too delicious to resist apparently lol) and she gobbled that up and it was just enough to wet her appetite so she at all her food at that time. This morning, guess what? She passed the other WHOLE jalapeno. I feel like such a bad mommy for letting that happen. That's a long time in her system :( But anyways, today Layla is at the university to chill out with all her friends there and then have a nice relaxing half hour massage and acupuncture :D |
Oh, my! Layla is going to get pancreatitis or something if they don't quit feeding her. I can't believe anyone would give her jalopenos! What is truly shocking is that she ate them! I suppose you need a sign on her back stating she cannot have office snacks.:D I've long ago threatened everyone at work not to give Kacee any snacks. They know better than to give her any, too.;) I'm glad she is making new friends, but I know you don't want her new friends making her sick. I hope she had a great day being pampered and perhaps they'll see a wee bit of improvement, too. Wishing nothing but the best for Layla.:p |
You and layla are doing so great! I just am appalled some idiot would give a small dog like a yorkie, not one but TWO jalepeno's!! wtf are they thinking????? where's the caring and compassion in that? what a jerknoid! |
Layla is doing so well :) On Sunday, she STOOD UP for the first time! She hasn't done it since, and she didn't hold it, but her muscles engaged in her back legs to push her back end up when people were coming in the door and she was excited :D It was so great to see! Yesterday we learned her new exercises when we picked her up from rehab. She is now doing exercises to strengthen her core muscles, and she's doing really well with them! I've also set up an area at work that blocks off my desk so she can't get out and beg for food. The whole area is fenced off with her crate, a recycle bin, and a baby gate. She's stuck with me now! And now people don't give her food without asking me first because I'm right here. |
That's so wonderful that she stood up!:D To me, that is progress. I hope the new exercises work out well and it helps to build up those muscles. It will take time, but I'm convinced it will alll pay off. I'm glad you fenced her in around your desk. I think those people would kill her if they kept up those kinds of feeding habits! I hope you, Scott, and Layla have a wonderful week. It sounds as though things are slowly improving for Layla and I'm sure she is just happy to be with you even though she is fenced in at work.:D |
You, Scott, and Layla never cease to amaze me. You have such a sweet, happy, determined little girl. You really should consider putting this all together and write a book about your journey with Layla, even if it's in log or diary form. We as a community have been really moved and helped by hearing her story, and I'm sure many other animal lovers would also love to read such a heartwarming, inspirational story about a very special little dog and her devoted parents. With your permission, I'd like to tell my students about Layla's story. I will be starting my thirty first year of teaching in a couple of weeks. I usually start off the year sharing some stories of people that were told that they would fail, had no talent, couldn't overcome medical odds, and things like that to try to motivate them. I've collected stories from a variety of places, some from Chicken Soup for the Soul books and others from doing a bit of research. Layla's story would be one I know my high school students would love, just as I have loved reading every post on this thread since it began. |

Lindsey, I think Layla's story has been incredibly educational for many people and I also believe it may save the lives of other dogs that for one reason or another have become paralyzed. Reading the steps you have gone through and what it has involved makes what was imaginary before step possible now. Her story really is inspirational. You and Scott really are amazing people! |
She stood up!!!:) You are one little amazing girl. Hugs and kisses |
Her standing up seems like proof enough that one day soon she will be walking again. We will keep praying for her too. |
