Thanks everyone! The posts on this thread really help to make my day, every day.

Here's a picture of Layla about an hour ago. She picked up her ball and wouldn't give it back! Lol

She's so darned cute! :)

I just read this post for the first time.....Im so glad she is doing better....She is such a cutie pie, may she continue to improve;)

yorkieusa 07-21-2010 06:26 AM

That is such a darling picture of Layla. She looks like she's saying, "Come on, Mom, put that camera down and let's play ball.":D

Thanks again for all your support :D Layla's starting to push her boundaries now. We played fetch at work yesterday for the first time. Then I stayed late last night and let her run around on her own for a bit. I ended up losing her! She was snooping in someone's office  This morning she can't decide whether she wants to be in her crate or in her travel carrier, so she drags herself from one to the other. A coworker came over and Layla got right out of her crate, around the desk, and to his feet to say hello!

Before I found out Layla wouldn't have rehab this week, I had been booked in for a specialist about some eye problems I've been having. Hopefully Layla will be okay here in her crate at the office while I'm gone to the hospital for an hour or so :( I'll have to lock her crate door so she doesn't come looking for me!

yorkieusa 07-22-2010 08:47 AM

I'm sure Layla did fine in the crate while you were gone. Mine is content here at work. It's her home away from home.:D Hope you're doing well!:)

linz06 07-22-2010 08:55 AM

She did do okay, as far as I know. But last night we went to Scott's office and tried leaving for 10 minutes so he could drive me to a movie, and he was going right back to do some overtime work for the night. Well, we didn't even get 20 steps away and his boss called us back and asked us to take her with us because she was yelping :(

Today she's content as can be though!

yorkieusa 07-23-2010 06:02 AM

She was in a new place!:D Mine would have been yelping, too. I hope you, Scott, and Layla have a nice weekend and perhaps there'll be some small improvement in Layla.:)

linz06 07-23-2010 08:46 AM

Thanks! We're heading to the lake for the weekend, and Layla will be spoiled rotten by her grandma and grandpa ;) And with them being pro pee & poop expressers, maybe Layla's mommy and daddy can get a little time to go out alone too :D

This whole situation just seems to be the S**T end of the stick for Layla and you and your family. You guys are handling it like champs and I'm angry at the universe for you. I try to think that everything happens for a reason. Maybe this is preparing you & Scott for parenting skin kids, maybe it's supposed to teach you a lesson in compassion, I have no idea. You both seem to be the MOST compassionate people and your parents are too, they learned how to express Layla and welcome her into their lake house with open arms! Its not fair this happened Linz. But it could not have happened to anyone less loving, understanding and compassionate as you and Scott are proving to be. I PRAY so hard that once 'the lesson' is learned, Layla will be given a miracle, the miracle of movement in her back legs.
Ive followed your thread from the beginning and my heart aches for you all. I also see how far you've come and how incredibly loving and compassionate you are, and the support you receive from your family, friends, coworkers, vet techs, therapists and significant other make this a battle worth fighting. Layla's story and your devotion truly make me want to be a better person.

Have a wonderful wonderful weekend... and I do HOPE that you do get some free time with Scott this weekend!

Your post just brought tears to my eyes. Thank you.

A few months ago I didn't know I was capable of going through so much and coming out okay. I never would have guessed that anything like this would happen to me. But I am sure that anyone of of you guys who love your yorkies so much would do just the same thing. It was a struggle especially at the start but I am so grateful that Layla is alive and happy and not in pain.

All I want is for people to know that dogs can live with this condition and still live their lives to the fullest potential. Just because a dog can't walk, it doesn't have to be put down. Dogs don't care if they walk, drag, or roll on wheels. Layla can't control her pee or poop but really, peeing and pooping isn't a dog's whole life! A few minutes out of my day to do that for her is nothing, and honestly it's more convenient than a dog going all over the house or sniffing forever outside before they go :);) I know when she goes to the bathroom, and without a doubt, that she won't make a mess until I express her again!

There are so many people willing and capable to take care of these dogs, so if an owner doesn't want to take the time to help, why not give them up to someone who will? It's not worth a dog's life. If they're not in pain, they're happy just as they are. Layla lays on her back in my arms and snores with her tongue sticking out, and I could not live without that. She runs after her toys and barks at the neighborhood kids, and every morning she wakes up and gives me kisses. She is HAPPY.

I think that Layla and I ended up together for a reason. I can't stand to think that if she went to some other family, maybe she wouldn't be alive right now. She is the perfect advocate for animals with this disease! I am happy to know that when Scott and I have children, they will grow up knowing that any animal or person with a disability is just the same as anyone else.

I've thought the same thing so many times - that if she'd been with another family she might not be here now. She gives and receives so much love and she is proof that a yorkie can be happy. I'm glad you guys got to have some fun time this weekend, too.:)

I'll bet you have learned so much about yourself from all this; how much you can handle; grace under pressure; and doing things you never planned on doing.

I think your care of Layla is a testament to everyone who reads this; if anything happened to my little one involving her ability to walk; I would remember back to this thread and know she can still have a good life.

You have done an admirable job with her; I am so impressed.

I am so sorry. I hope she feels better.

The love that you, Scott, and Layla share is so beautiful and inspirational. I have been moved to tears so many times by Layla's story. Layla is such a happy little girl who loves her family and life. You and Scott are already parents, devoted to making life for Layla wonderful. Layla has taught you what is essential in life. It will be wonderful when you and Scott have children. They, too. will know the unlimited love and devotion like you have shown to Layla. I think this is a thread that anyone considering adopting a dog or having a child should read.
