I am definitely not against pain meds just NSAIDS. Our bc dentist will not use nsaids he says they are not safe and many specialists i deal with cringe when i mentioned them so i think they proceed with them with caution where as vets do not which upsets me even when i asked for tramadol the vet swore to me it was safe to give with steroids even though i knew differently and read they are never to be mixed. I trusted him as he was the professional but in consulting specialists they said he never should have given dd that drug

I"m thinking if it was a dislocated shoulder and it popped back into place (which is possible) it wouldn't show up on the xray. I'm hoping she will be better in a few days. Its not stopping her from moving around but the limp is still noticable.

| Thank you everyone for your responses. I've been at work tonight and was unable to log on before now. AS one poster said, there must be a reason why the vet prescribed Rimadyl vs Metacam. I will continue to use the Rimadyl; its only once per day for 4 days. I'm sorry but I can't let her go in pain. She is unable to speak and tell me how much pain she is in, so I must do what I can for her. I am a nurse, so it is my belief that no one should have to sustain pain if it can be helped. Again, thank you all for your responses. I'm so grateful for YT!

but both are nsaids anyway same thing. It is not a matter of not having pain meds it is what pain meds are safer for our dogs. Tramadol is much safer for dogs after what i have seen what an nsaid can do. Read the fda info link i posted on nsaids there is alot of info on that.

| Oh, yes...I saw that article. She seems to be slightly better today. If she looks better tomorrow, perhaps I can stop the medication. Sometimes only 24-48 hours is enough to reduce inflammation.

| Thank you...tonight she was running around, there was no stopping her! It's not quite as noticeable now.

| that is a good sign but i would try to confine and make her rest as sometimes they think they are feeling better with the meds as it masks the pain and you do not want her to re-injure herself or let the injury get worse. |

She is looking better today. I didn't give her the Rimadyl pill today and she seems to be doing ok. I did pick her up and put her on my lap or next to me when she got too active in hopes to slow her down.

| Pain killers may seem the most affordable and quickest option for your canine's osteoarthritis treatment but even aspirin can cause adverse reactions, especially with long lasting use. Your vet may suggest using aspirin as a momentary pain relief but should not be given to pets being affected by renal disease or problems with hypertension. Lengthy used of aspirin can cause stomach discomfort. temaril p tablet |

May I ask where did you get your information to use this for pain? This is certainly an odd choice.
