My vets also assured me that my Max would be fine. He was under once for his MRI and then just last week for his neuter. I wish you luck at the new vet and am anxious to hear their thoughts. I think you are doing great being proactive. Hang in there.

That's reassuring-like I said I heard from the vet 'I have to inform you of the risks blah blah death' and freaked. I didn't know dogs went under for dental Elvis has a complete "scraping" and cleaning and he wasn't put under but I was assured it wouldn't hurt him-he bit the technician though, so he wasn't happy about it in the least. As long as this vet agrees in him going under I'm going to get him fixed-its not that I can't put out the effort in keeping him away from my female while she's in heat but the risk of him impregnating her isn't worth it if I can eliminate the risk. I'll post as soon as get recommendations from the new vet. Again I really appreciate all the help from everyone here, its been a journey.

Is this the same vet who told you that phenobarbital shouldn't be given to small dogs?

Well I'm glad I saw this thread. Looks like my sister's doxie is going to go on phenobarbitol - he's had 2 episodes now of exactly what was described in this thread - cluster seizures. Almost exactly a month apart. I saw the second seizure. He went all stiff in the legs, sort of like our childhood shepherd mix whose back/hips went in old age from displaysia, and it kind of came in waves. He was shaking at times, at one point did actually foam at the mouth just a little and pooed himself. If you've never seen it before it can be scary, but fortunately we've dealt with dogs all our lives. My sister just sat next to him or held him, talked calmly to him and petted him. He was scared but the petting and talking did seem to help some. She called her vet (mine too now actually) who said that while it is distressing, there's not a lot you can do during a seizure. He's going in tomorrow (OK actually tonight) for a consult, may do some tests, although he's had a full blood workup and everything looked fine, and will probably get a prescription. I'm wondering if he will get valium or something too.

I'm really glad to hearr this can help someone else, so her vet also expressed that not much can be done-my vet said that until seizures were monthly medication would be unecessary, but we're at the point Elvis seems to be loosing some abilities and cluster seizure are different multiple seizures at once which personally I think is more severe than any of the other seizure disorders. Check out all the links on here I know its a lot but there is so much to do when you find out its epilepsy-and you can help your sister with the knowledge-like removing rosemary from you yard like I did and making sure you are using a safe flea med and heart worm medication-I had to switch mine...I'm still in the beginning of learning about all this but I have gotten more constructive advice here than from any of the three vets I consulted with!

What is the update on Elvis? I have been experiencing episodes as well with my 4 yr old Yorkie Princeton. I have taken video of 2 of the episodes and he does the arching of the back with a stiff right leg and shaking. We have an appt with a neurologist this week. His episodes fluctuate - we were episode-free for over 6 months. I have noticed that he is more prone to having an episode if I travel. I would love to hear how Elvis is doing.
