Well I'm glad I saw this thread. Looks like my sister's doxie is going to go on phenobarbitol - he's had 2 episodes now of exactly what was described in this thread - cluster seizures. Almost exactly a month apart. I saw the second seizure. He went all stiff in the legs, sort of like our childhood shepherd mix whose back/hips went in old age from displaysia, and it kind of came in waves. He was shaking at times, at one point did actually foam at the mouth just a little and pooed himself. If you've never seen it before it can be scary, but fortunately we've dealt with dogs all our lives. My sister just sat next to him or held him, talked calmly to him and petted him. He was scared but the petting and talking did seem to help some. She called her vet (mine too now actually) who said that while it is distressing, there's not a lot you can do during a seizure. He's going in tomorrow (OK actually tonight) for a consult, may do some tests, although he's had a full blood workup and everything looked fine, and will probably get a prescription. I'm wondering if he will get valium or something too. |
