Rubbing Vulva ?? allergies - YorkieTalk.com Forums

i just took dd to internal medicine specialist as she works weekends and our regular vet does not so i wanted a urinalysis and culture done as dd has been rubbing her vulva for two days and took her in a month ago and no uti when i did urinalysis and culture but she was licking down there so she is in cone per vet. She was on antibiotics just stopped 2/4 and been on probiotics - so yesterday she started with this rubbing of her vulva if we put her on the ground so i got a urine sample firs thing this am and took her in as they would not just run analysis and culture for me had to see her which was fine. I will know tomorrow as they are sending out to lab. She thinks like vet probably not uti again and hopes not as we have a hard time with her on antibiotics as some cause hives in her.

If this is not uti what have others used for irritation around vulva? I am going to call dermatologist in am but ims said i can use an over the counter hydrocortisone cream around it in the fold not too close to open area and hypoallergenic baby wipes. It is like she has a rug burn on her vulva and it is bugging her but do not want her rubbing herself tomorrow when i have to go to work

so why i took her in today - she has never done this one before

also she is not in an area with rugs and i removed the dog beds as she jumps in them and rubs herself - poor baby has had a rough two days and still do not have an answer and ims did not sound too confident on the hydrocortisone cream so made me nervous so will wipe her with hypoallergenic baby wipes

we bathed her in hypoallergenic shampoo yesterday and it seemed to help for a little while and as long as she is in our lap she is calm but when we put her on the ground and she gets going she seems uncomfortable

allergies STINK

I have to keep Roxys vulva clean and dry every day. I use a tiny bit of the Chlorhexidine (sp?) shampoo. I feed her dried cranberries in her PM meal and she gets the probiotic VSL#3 every morning.

I hope you get some answers soon, I know how uncomfortable it is to see them like that...

Sounds like a yeast infection, how about Monistat, it's available without prescription, and it might relieve symptoms till you get lab results. Yeast Infection Symptoms MONISTAT® By the way, I don't know if dogs even get this, but it sounds so similar, and you did say she had been on antibiotics.

The only concern I would have with Monistat, is whether it is safe for them to ingest. She is bound to lick herself. It may be ok, I honestly do not know.

What I have used for fungal infections on skin is 50/50 warm water and vinegar rinses....I think it might be helpful if this is indeed a yeast infection.

Didn't even think about that. I guess I'm through with my vet career.

thanks she did mention chlorhexedine wipes as well -- she is on probiotics but doubling the dose today

thanks and would that show up on the urinalysis at all?

ok thanks good idea as well - i have her in a cone right now so she cannot lick it but ya never know they are houdinis if they want to be and i have to work tomorrow and have a business meeting out of area for two days

so dh is on his own and i why i went today but will definitely call vet and derm first thing in am

lol i will ask vet tomorrow about that too but i know before he recommended hydrocortisone cream as well a month ago i just thought they would have a dog topical for that area but i guess it is same as otc - whole foods has a natural cortisone cream i have used on her before but i think it is expired - i have it here as well as the gold bond cream and aveeno but want to make sure since in an area ims said you do not want to get inside them for sure and if she rubs it then it can get inside - trying to hold her so she does not rub

I have those dye bottles i use for demi's eyes to clean them so maybe i can mix 50/50 vinegar and water and squirt over area as do not think that would hurt or cause an allergic reaction. I was hoping the hypoallergenic bath would work and sorry i did not do chlorhexedine bath but it is very drying to her skin and skin is a little dry now

I don't know, I thought it was a separate test. If you've ever had a yeast infection, you know that they are agonizing, and I get them if I take antibiotics. No other topicals help.

I like the Chlorhexdine stuff for this issue.

Yeast is brown, so do you see any of that?

no brown stuff around there just red irritation in fold almost like an allergic reaction to something but we use perfume and dye free on everything so not sure what it could be

where do you get the chlorhexedine wipes as i have them for dental and i have the duoxo spray but that stuff says one spray for 10lb dog so that one spray is strong - guess i could dilute a little in water and wash with it as i have the shampoo but thinking maybe the vinegar and water more natural - she did tolerate that shampoo but it is drying and not sure safe to lick is it ?

my mom was asking about the wipes you use for hemoroids they have witch hazel in them cannot think of the name though

yeah had one and it was miserable just like uti that was horrible - ok have a funny story and this is true love lollll need a laugh

we were going out of town for thanksgiving and i had a couple uti in a row miserable so i was feeling it again and called doc and he said bring urine sample in first thing in am so i was rushing around at work put it in baggy then another baggie and then brown bag and asked dh to run it to doctors to be tested to get meds lollll so of course this is 1 year into relationship now he would tell me no way lolll and the doctor came out and said uh yeah she needs to come in lollllllllll so he calls me on phone and says get down her doc has to see you and the nurses were cracking up and said now that is true love lolllllllll
