thanks did you use the acv or regular vinegar as have heard acv is acidic but have definitely heard of this used as rinses was always afraid to use in water and on her as the acidic part scared me and did not want her having a burning affect. i could mix with distilled water and this as i have some acv and dab on area with cotton ball or qtip to see if she reacts to it in a small spot first

i bet they do a skin scraping for a fungal on skin maybe - makes sense though she just stopped antibiotics and it was clindamyacin on 2/4 and have heard this happens with antibiotics being stopped but i was stuck she had a horrible staph infection - I am going to start her back on coconut oil too now as that is antifungal and antibacterial and she did great on it for 2 years never should have stopped was scared of pancreatitis since dex had it

Distilled white vinegar is what I used.
I had a pup that had almost no hair on his body from a fungal infection. That rinse never bothered him at all. It worked wonders.

The fact that it is in a skin fold tends to make me think it is fungal. A skin scraping will tell.

ok i will take her to derm as she needs to have a follow up from staph anyway as ims said she saw some red spots but was not sure so want to be sure she is over this staph for good so could get both things out of the way. I know chlorhexedine is usually for bacteria and ketachlor is for fungal

GREAT she just threw up and woofed it back down ;( before i could grab it - hopefully ate food too fast she has not vomitted in a while but last time i took her to vet in december she vomitted that night so maybe her tummy is upset from the vet visit

Yep...he was listed for euthanasia because of his appearance. My vet told me to bathe him twice/week in Selsun Blue shampoo and rinse with warm water and vinegar. I really did not believe it would work...but in no time he showed improvement and he started to grow hair! I always said he was like the ugly duckling that turned into a beautiful swan. He was a little doll with a great personality!

He was my beloved Cody who passed this past August from renal failure. He had renal issues all the while I had him which was well controlled with diet until his last year....I adopted him in 2005 and he passed just before his 13th birthday.

wow he looked great after that truly amazing good job

I just wiped her with a baby hypoallergenic wipe as have used those before going to see how that works

urinalysis came back not a uti so it is something topical so next step is dermatologist and doing cytology

what are the odds it would be a female dog pleasuring herself at 5 1/2 years old that is spay? she has never done this before just wondering as a friend had a maltese that did this but my girls have never done this ever and i checked her anal glands and no issue there - this has me totally stumped

dermatologist told me to put some neosporine around the area twice a day for a couple days if it persists to bring her in but i am going to take her in i think because i do not like treating unless i know what it is and cytology will tell us if yeast or bacteria as neosporine is more for bacteria correct? or does it work for yeas as well?

you can ask the vet for resortin ointment; it's antibiotic and antifungal; it might heal faster. keep us posted and hope she gets better.

I think the odds are extremely low that the dog is pleasuring herself, I'm in agony just thinking about your dog. Can you ask your vet if you could use an over the counter cream like Monistat, it gives immediate relieve. Perhaps even using a diaper or panties to keep her from licking the cream. I don't think it does any harm, but it wouldn't help if that were not the problem, but of course, you should ask the vet. Secondary infections can result if she licks too much. I think I would have also kept her on the probiotics longer. I feel so bad for her. It use to be that you couldn't buy it over the counter, and by the time you got a doctors prescription, yikes, I hate thinking about it.

she is not too bad today dh stayed home today to work from home said she only had two episodes. I called derm she said to use neosporine. I put a little coconut oil on saturday around area so tried that one - tried hypoallergenic baby wipes. She is not real horrible thank goodness. I may take her in tomorrow to dermatologist for a follow up trying to move my meeting around to make the appt. She was resting peacefully when i went home it seems when she gets amped up allergies release histamines and that is when they get most itchy but if you can calm them they tend to calm down. I keep checking it. I have a call into vet as well to see if he has a cream or something so waiting for his call back.

She is on probiotics i just stopped doubling up so today i doubled her up as she had a colitis type poop as she is probably stressed from going to vet yesterday it was firm but a little jelly drop so i gave her another 2 capsules of probiotic with some pumpkin so hopefully she will be regular tonight

my gut is it is more of a rug burn type thing but i do not want her to get an infection

i am glad it is not uti as really do not want to put her back on antibiotics again since she has the chance of getting hives on them and that takes 5-7 days to clear

can you send me a link to that so i can ask about this? derm said she wants to do cytology before prescribing but she said to try the neosporin for a couple days twice a day but i thought that was only antibacterial not antifungal? I am afraid she will lick it but she said to hold her for 10 min then she will be ok and do not worry about licking and i guess i would use a qtip to apply - still thinking vinegar and water as isn't that the stuff that is in the douche ? so i would think safe and coconut oil is safe too - she has reacted to neosporin before on her neck is my concern
