Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | I am so, so sorry this happened to your tiny baby but honey.....you are Mother of the Year in my eyes. Thank you a million times over for sharing your frightening story with Emma. You made me realize that I don't know canine CPR and I'm a nurse! But I will be making an appointment tomorrow to learn how, I'm not kidding. I will always be eternally grateful to you. I am so happy that yt's prayers were answered and the answer was YOU GO BABY GIRL! |

Well I would love to help another person with my story. I will add a disclaimer here....I am not an expert...that said... If you are to ever find your dog not breathing, check the airway and make sure they have not choked on something..finger sweep. If not, then place their mouth and nose in your mouth, blow a tiny amount of air in...you can feel it go into their body if there is no blockage. If there is one try to clear it or tip the puppy upside down and firmly pat the back to try to dislodge it. Then try the air again. That is the "p" part at least. To do the chest compressions you gently squeeze the left side of the rib cage on a small dog over and over(I used 2 fingers like you would on an infant)....I actually felt her heartbeat start back up...then stopped and worked on the breathing. I did not do the 5 compressions to 1 breath like humans, I just kept doing them until I got the response. Keep doing which ever part needs to be done until you get help or get to help. Once she gasped on her own, I kept rubbing her and talking to her to get her to know I was there and to keep trying to breathe. The emergency vet told me it only works about 20% of the time when done for animals and that Emma was very lucky. I told him I would do it to any animal and pray for that miracle again if the time arises. It is amazing to kick in to automatic pilot and just do it...with a little knowledge we all can do it. Hope that helped..... Emma is still weak and is coughing and sneezing up yellow secretions and has another visit to the vet tomorrow to recheck a chest xray. She wants to hold off on the cardiologist as Emma is still "not out of the woods" yet. Will update you all tomorrow afternoon...thank you for the prayers... Emma thanks you also...

Another update: Little Emma is still recovering. She is not eating well but is still drinking the Ensure. She was still coughing a lot so we went back to the vet and she started her on Baytril instead of the Clavamox. Since then she is clearing up more each day and hoping she will begin eating more and more. We are still going to follow up in March with a cardiologist from Boston. Will come back and update after the ultrasound results come back. Thank you again everyone!!!

Ok well had to update today!! This morning Emma woke up and ate good, she then proceeded to want to play and giving tons of kisses. You can just tell she feels so much better and it was her way of saying "thanks mom" I think. She has stayed right with me since that night, she went with me or I stayed home. Today she walked into the diningroom and drank water on her own and has that yorkie bounce back in her step. I wanted to update everyone on this because I am so happy to have my baby back. Warm thanks again for all those prayers that worked!!

Emma is in great need of prayers again...... Her mouth is infected again and her adult teeth are pushing her baby teeth out sideways into her cheeks. She is having trouble eating from the pain and infection. She has started Clindamyacin again and the vet says she now has to get the teeth out before we end up going septic plus the pain she is in. Now I have been told that she will have a shorter life expectancy due to her enlarged heart. She also has scoliosis in her spine. She weighs in now at 1 pound 10 ounces at almost 9 months. With all of this in mind and knowing that she is in pain I am going ahead with the dental and getting her spayed at the same time. I know that chances are that she will not survive this but I cannot let her go through the pain and this med again. She is barely eating again and just drinking the ensure. Her surgery is scheduled for tomorrow around 11am. Please everyone pray for a miracle. Thank you
