| I'm so sorry for your loss. Please don't beat yourself up over this. All those "what if" kinds of questions really won't help and can drive you crazy although I completely understand and have been there myself. And I will say that even if the vet did nothing wrong, it might be a good idea to find another just so that you aren't constantly questioning it in your mind. Personally, I would always be questioning the things he said and wondering so maybe it would be better to find another vet.... |

| I am so sorry for your loss. We lost our yorkie in November after a brief illness which the vet and vet specialist were unable to diagnose. Biscuit presented with a different symptom each week and even confused the vet neurologist specialist we were referred to. (He was limping then better on steroids, red blood cell count low, then other rear leg was lame, red blood cell count still low, no signs of bleeding, front leg same side was lame & he was walking into things...then those symptoms were gone & he was bruising under armpits from being picked up. Following week he developed a large lump in his neck...ultrasound showed it was a lymph node surrounded with blood...more tests, different symptoms...he passed within two weeks. His stool never showed any bleeding, but suspected some type of internal bleeding under the skin. His diagnosis went from an injury to necrotic encephalitis to possibly cancer/tumor. The doctors were all surprised when he passed. My reasoning behind telling you this story is that Biscuit had the best vets available and they were still unable to diagnose, treat and save him. It sounds to me as if you, and your vet, did everything possible to save your wonderful pup. It is horrible and devastating when they leave us at an early age...although any time they leave us is too early. Try and take comfort in the fact that you provided him with a wonderful loving family for the time he was here and that he shared his love with all of you. Feel free to pm me if you need to talk. |

I just read this and one thing I feel I should add. I have a feeling you might be questioning the vet with good reason. Not that it is all his fault. This was a horrible accident....but, I am really surprised that the vet did not say to bring him in. My vet said I could try to induce vomiting BUT if I did not SEE the pill it was imperative that I bring my pup in immediately! I don't see that you were told that and it does concern me a bit. It does not do any good to place blame, but I totally understand your being concerned about whether should you use the same vet in the future. That above is something that would concern me....my vet was pretty insistent and told me it was a very dangerous situation!

I do think you probably should have been told to bring him in but it won't change anything. I would, however, use this knowledge in making my decision about whether to use the vet again. As others have said, you really cannot change this, and it was an accident. I hope you can let it go soon because it will just continue to tear you up. I had a little one die in my arms on Christmas eve morning. He choked on food and then had a cardiac arrest. I tortured myself and then I found the following link on the internet that really helped me. I know it is a different story, but perhaps it will help to bring some peace : I Killed My Dog!

| The more i think about this the one thing bothering me is inducing vomitting - i just would never do that i would take them in and the vet could do it as here is my concern is this nsaid went down to intestines then back up never going to liver or kidneys so they were not affected at all but the intestines got a double whamy which is why it may have been so damaging so in that respect I would have been a little upset at the vet for recommending such a thing when knowing nsaids are very damaging to the intestines |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | It sounds like a horrible accident and while I don't have advise....I just want to say how sorry I am. I'm glad you forgave your husband - if he's like my husband was....he's probably just as upset and blaming himself we almost had a similar thing happen with his medication once ....I know how lucky my Chanel was - she never got it in her mouth because I was right there when it fell I'm so sorry |
