Surgery Q? for Burn (graphic) 1 Attachment(s) Will try to attach photo of "Chloe" - a friend's Yorkie who was burned in drying cage last Sat at groomers. Vet will be performing surgery Tues to remove the entire affected area. Very, very long, emotional week it was - HAS anyone ever seen this and/or experienced such a horrific thing? Does anyone know what to expect, ie..the procedure, recovery? Chloe is not my baby (I have 3 boston terrorists), she belongs to a friend; but, I've known her since I helped pick her out at 8 wks. She will be 1 yr old tomorrow. Thanks - I could also use advice that will help comfort my friend. |
OMG I AM SO SORRY THIS IS HORRIFIC :( this baby is lucky to be alive as i have heard of dogs dying from this type of accident - she will be ok though as there is amazing medicine now a days for dogs. Calendula helps with building skin and i believe COQ10 so have her ask vet about these things after the surgery - wow this makes me want to cry i feel so bad for this baby and your friend |
OMG this is just awful. How could this happen at the groomers??? Someone was not doing their job!! I hope your friend sues them for the vet bills! |
and i hope this groomer pays for all the medical bills for this baby as that is only the right thing to do - i hate those big blow dryers :( i am sure she is on heavy pain meds correct? that has to be so dang painful |
|
OMG that's awful!!! I know some larger pet stores aren't allowed to use cage dryers on small breeds (which isn't to say they don't actually use them). Our groomer just lets them air dry because they dry so fast. That's awful. Is your friends dog still in a lot of pain? |
OMG!!!! I can not believe that! WOW! Poor Poor baby! I hope the groomer is paying the medical bills! |
|
|
OMG that just makes my heart weep for the little one. I, too, hope they have her on pain meds so she is not in pain. I wish I knew words of wisdom for the owner.... all I can say is I am praying that God holds her up and brings her comfort during this difficult time. Huggs to you for seeking to help them both! |
That is so horrible, we need to do something to change the laws, that poor dog, what state did this happen in? |
OMG, What caused this?? Does the groomer have answer? Was there a shortage on the dryer? I was just telling my DH how i dont want to bring Dudley to groomer's this week b/c it seems we deal w/ flea's when have picked him up the last three time???:confused: Th:confused:e goomer allows Dudley to play w/ her yorkie whens she's done? I so hope your friend's baby will be okay, like someone said, luckliy he lived through this...Keep us updated....sending hugs!!!:aimeeyork |
i ended up having a mobile come to house after all the horror stories i read about and now wash and blow dry them myself and have groomer do cut and nails. I am too afraid - accidents happen but this is UNACCEPTABLE- my friends groomer cut her maltese and the dog needed stitches things happen but this is HORRIBLE pure negligence |
Chloe..... Thanks to all of you for your prompt replies. I did read the article above "Thermal Burns in Dogs", good info....my friend would freak if she read it....this looks like a long haul. I will check into nutrients suggested to help her heal. I JUST hope she makes it thru surgery and recovery...my heart is so heavy for this precious little one. Florida here. I have been checking online about regulation, and appears "as someone said", there is none! The groomer used a cage/kennel with dryer attached. After going there yesterday, I can see how this happened - the dryers SHOULD NOT have a Hot/High setting. I walked into groomers yesterday with pics (left mom and dog in car) 8x10 and 5x7 size...many more graphic than the one I posted. The groomer/owner cried...just could not believe it could have happened - totally beside himself...I am sure yesterday was not a good day for him, nor probably today, or tomorrow. Has said he will go above and beyond to pay whatever. I truly believe the person responsible for putting the dog in kennel...had to have seen at some point the setting was high. The dog showed no signs of burn until 2 days, it started getting a little red, she was shaking, wouldnt eat, drink.... - horribly stressed...after reading the Thermal Burn article I understand why. She could very easily have died. My friend is as stressed....and I am trying to keep her calm....but honestly, when I saw it after the bandages came off....I almost passed out. I also need advice to keep her calm thru this (and me)...it's going to be another bad week. Again thanks and keep info coming, I am reading and listening. |
here is a link for humans and what i want you to look at is nutritional aspect below so scroll down Burns some thing she may want to think about and ask vet are COQ10 CALENDULA COCONUT OIL as that is natural anti-bacterial and antifungal and can be given internally and many of us use this for skin in our dogs fish diet as it has omegas in it like cod so check out that as that may speed up the healing process but obviously discuss all this with the vet or specialist |
Oh wow, I have never seen anything like this. Poor baby. I am glad the groomer is willing to pay for all the bills... but still, is pure negligence! :( |

OMG! I knew the dangers of cage driers before this and pay extra for a groomer who refuses to even have one on her property. But I honestly had no idea HOW dangerous they could be and that symptoms might not show up right away!:eek: I'm still in shock and yet I THANK you for posting this info! Many people don't know the dangers. You are probably saving the lives of many dogs with this thread. Poor baby! :( :getwellso |
I am so very sorry for everyone involved. Looks like a case of shere negelence to me. I will keep the little one in my  and :hands:. Please keep us updated on little Chloe's progress. |

Oh poor Chloe, I am heartbroken just looking at her picture, I cannot imagine how your friend must be feeling. We'll be keeping your friend and Chloe in our thoughts and prayers. :( |
This is terrible. My heart breaks for that poor baby. Imagine the pain,....that dog HAD to be barking, scratching, yelping...something that should have alerted someone while it was in that cage. And what is so hard about drying them the regular way? To me this is just a lazy and obviously dangerous way of doing it. The groomer I use doesn't have a drying cage...but thank you for alerting everyone about this. Prayers going up for that poor baby and for the owner....and for YOU for being there and being supportive for them. |

Oh My God ! Those are terrible burns ! :(:(:(:(:( that poor sweetie - trapped in that cage with no one paying attention while she burned terribly is horrible and very negligent on the groomers part. They KNOW how dangerous those dryers are. It sounds like he feels really bad but man....that should NOT have happened ! No matter how busy a groomer is they should never ever leave a dog unattended ..... and anyone who sees this needs to remember it if they ever go to a groomer who use them. To me it\'s the lazy way to dry pets and dangerous ! Hand held dryers are safer and even then - people have to be careful I felt sick seeing that :( BIG HUGS to you and your friend and I truly hope she\'s going to be ok ....she must be in so much pain.....those burns look very serious.:(:(:(:( |
Ok... thats all I know about burns is that my 15 year old carries two big scars on his leg from a dirt bike muffler burn from last September. I know dogs/kids aren\'t the same however...we did silvadene cream 1% and gauze dressing 3x a day. Most important thing about burns are they are real prone to infection. My sons plastic surgeon told me if I neglected to keep the infection at bay, we were looking at skin graff surgery. so needless to say...I opted for keeping the burn very clean. Burns heal slowly. I changed dressings for 6 plus months. My son was a good patient and would shower off before I changed the dressing...we did this 3x a day in between work/school. But, it has healed nicely and he does have scarring...but its much better than what could of happened....Burns are horribly painful...I can\'t believe they could not have heard the poor dog crying for help....my god...I feel horrible |
OMG--that poor, poor, baby--------I pray she heals well. My heart goes out to her owner. I cant even imagine what i would do if that happened to my baby |
Thanks to everyone.... for your concern. Please pass this far and wide, feel free to crosspost...many as I, had no clue what could happen to our little ones while we entrusted them to be bathed and groomed and the problem would not present itself for a day or 2. There appears to be no regulation or oversight and anyone can hang a sign, after paying for the annual business license fee. I will certainly keep you posted after Chloe\'s surgery Tues. I am going to talk to vet and ask that he keep her for a couple days...as my friend is too overwhelmed with it all. I chose Boston Terriers because of low maintenance because I inherited my mom\'s BT and also had a maltese...it was toss up between a BT or Yorkie to add to extended family after my maltese went to Rainbow Bridge. BT\'s are low maintenance as far as grooming...so I don\'t have groomer issues to worry about, but as with all breeds, there are other issues. Many Thanks Again....and I am still reading all posts and suggestions. |
Holy cow. i hope that baby make a full recovery. why or why did I click on that picture. i feel sick. Can\'t imagine seeing it in person. OP you are a DEAR friend to be doing the hard work and research for little Chloe\'s owner. ETA: I didn\'t even know about cage dryers as Uni has never been to the groomers, so I for one have learned something today. thank you for starting this thread. |
Oh Good Lord! That is just heartbreaking! My heart just dropped when I opened that picture. I will be praying that this surgery helps and is not too painful on this poor baby |
Horrific! Prayers for a full recovery and for the mommy. ~Joanne~ |
